mrm Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 I have been crazy busy the last few months, but I manage to do just a little more work on this. Here is the final look of the body, which would now need a lot of sanding and smoothing, but you get the idea.
wayne swayze Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Looking very cool! Just an idea that I was working on was to incorporate the top of the grille shell as an extension of the hood. It would make the front end look a bit longer, and eliminate the vertical line where the hood and shell meet. May not suit your taste, but you're welcome to use the idea if you want.

In this particular case however, I prefer to have the vertical line. Edited November 16, 2015 by mrm

Mr. Metallic Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I love the way you made the rear of the hood match the windshield . Very cool. I also like the top you made. Is the rear part the kit roof with a new top section added?

Is the rear part the kit roof with a new top section added?Yes, it is correct. The roof uses the rear section of the original. And thank you for the kind words.
mrm Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) So……this is back on my bench…. After sanding the body, some more filler was applied and also a new "molding" was added in the center of the top hood. The idea is to be shaped as a continuation of the windshield frame. I decided that if going through all the trouble of smoothing everything out, I could not leave the fenders with their traditional step sides. So those are starting to get filled too. I am in the process of making a mold for the roof, so I can cast more than one copies of it, as I will need at least two. While waiting for the silicone to set, I am working on the sister car, which is going to be fenderless. Edited March 9, 2016 by mrm
mrm Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 The first couple of pieces of the new roof came out really nice. I actually think there is room for improvement, but I'll have to play with resin mixtures and temperatures. These were cast in black resin just to use during the builds for reference, since black suits better the color combos. What do you guys think?
OldNYJim Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I think they look AMAZING! Great job, I'll be watching!
mrm Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 little update... I sanded again everything smooth and decided to take the hard road to smooth fenders. So instead of filling them, I sanded them smooth. Next coat of 2K primer should take care of them ones and for all. Then I made the character line on the sides of the hood, since it was destroyed when the hood was shaped. Next I made moldings on the roof I cast, from .20 x .20 styrene rod. The idea is to create movement by mimicking the windshield. Here it is on my guinea pig. Next - more primer…... Thanks for looking and stay tuned…...
mrm Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Some more progress…. The first color was sprayed And then a new option for an engine popped up. It is a supercharged LSR motor from one of the prepainted Revell kits - the Camaro ZL1. I cut off the transmission that came on it and mated it to the transmission that came in the Rat Roaster kit. Now it barely fits between the rails, but before that had to delete the AC compressor. I think that after I get rid of the cats, I can probably use the headers too.
Crazy Ed Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 That Paint sure looks like it came out GREAT!!!!
mrm Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 That Paint sure looks like it came out GREAT!!!!Thank you, but it is far from finished. It needs a darker blue (almost black) paint on the hood and the top part (above the belt line). Then it needs a very thin silver pinstripe in between the two colors, under the clear. But none of that can be done before the hood is finessed a little and proper hinges are made.
mrm Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Thank you Mike. Some mockups….. Still can't decide on wheels. I need to find a way contacting Steve Zimmerman. I understand he makes some pretty cool wheels. Can anyone share some contact info?
1930fordpickup Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Zimmerman is on or he was , he is also on facebook. I see him at the NNL Nationals.

misterNNL Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 The addition of the .020" half round strips adds an interesting look to the top design.Good styling choice. Thanks for sharing.
mrm Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Thank you Tom. The idea was born kind of by accident. I made the roof and originally its front edge mated to the windshield's edge. But I did not like it and wanted to make it more aggressive, so I wanted to make the front edge overhang, kind of like a visor, creating a mean look. The problem that created was that the upper chrome edge of the windshield got lost and I like to have it. So I decided to put it on top of the roof. But then I could not have it only on the front edge, so I made it kind of "flying" to the side. And to balance it, I put another rib in the middle. I think everything will work well together. Now, not to make a post without an update, I worked on the interior. It is a combination of the stock Phantom Vicky front seat with rounded off edges; the rear seat, also from the AMT Vicky, but it has been modified by cutting the bottom from the top and changing both the angles and the length of the seat cushion; the cut off floor the Dan Fink Speedwagon: and the side panels were scratch built from styrene.
mrm Posted March 17, 2016 Author Posted March 17, 2016 Some small updates…. The first color (Blue Angels Blue) was sprayed on the interior. Next I wanted to give some attitude to the rear end, while still keeping things simple. So I casted a quick change diff from white metal, drilled it and put an aluminum tube through it with the modified ends from and original Revell '32 rear end. I think it looks pretty cool. The bags were sanded down, 'till the rear was sitting just where I wanted it. I am happy with the stance now. Thanks for looking and stay tuned….
GTJUNIOR Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Loving the colour on this and that quick change in the back looks really good. Keep at it.
mrm Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Thank you guys. That deep blue is a relatively new color on Ferrari's option list. It is called Blue Elettrico.
crazyrichard Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 cool ! i love the detail of the rib on top of the roof !
mrm Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 Time to pay some attention to the drivetrain….. The engine that I am using came from the new Revell prepainted Camaro ZL-1. It is decent, but lacks a lot of things. So I had to modify a throttle body from the Dan Fink Speedwagon, make a shaft for the supercharger and adapt the starter from the Rat Roaster. Also I made a new driveshaft from aluminum tubing. After some very careful masking of the rear end, everything was primered and then sprayed with Ferrari's Azzuro California. Now comes my favorite part - detailing that motor. Thanks for looking and stay tuned…….
