hooknladderno1 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) With JT stirring interest in ARFF projects, I thought I would start a separate thread. SCI-FI had posted photos of some Oshkosh 1st generation Striker 8x8's. I have seen the "in progress" work of a professional modeler who is also working on one of these. His build is nothing short of AWESOME! Personally, I have been planning a build of an Oshkosh P-19. These came out in the mid 1980's and are still in use as reserve apparatus or being refurbished by CRSI for smaller airports and municipalities. (Chuck Maderom photo) I would also like to build some 1st generation Strikers, two, three, and four axle versions. Previously, I have built/am building some rapid intervention vehicles (RIV). Anyone else with an interest, references, or other ARFF related projects - feel free to join in! The following three photos are not my work. Great craftsmanship! These two are mine. Aaronw Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I've got a walk around of an Oshkosh P-19. The Amertek 2500L posted above it is on my someday list. The 2500 wasn't a very good crash truck, but it was fun to drive and I think they are a good looking vehicle.http://modelfireapparatus.com/apparatus/Crash/Crash1/Crash_page1.htm
SCI-FI Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Awesome examples, thanks for starting this thread. My scratch building skills are rudimentary, so I'm hoping my Massport Rescue 1 project will be a simple enough learning curve to achieve some measure of success. I'd like to consider an OshKosh, if it's something I could swing in 1/35, adapting some existing kit, but I'm ignorant of my choices for source kits.

hooknladderno1 Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) SCI-FI, Here is a photo of a HEMMT based tanker that is used by the Maine Forestry service (credit to the original photographer). I have a few more photos of this in my computer at home. Once I complete my HEMMT heavy brush tanker, I had considered doing one of those. David Edited June 13, 2015 by hooknladderno1
GLMFAA1 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 I'll add my scratch built Faun/Magirus - drawn up from the Preiser HO scale kit to 1/25th. Used the Ertle Payhauler tires as base and lots of Evergreen plastic siding Here is the original Preiser Just a comparison with the Revell Simba greg
hooknladderno1 Posted June 13, 2015 Author Posted June 13, 2015 Aaron, Thanks for sharing your photos! Greg, I always enjoy seeing your work! The Faun was quite an undertaking! David
SCI-FI Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I rummaged through enough of Amazon and The Bay and such to find a HEMTT kit to use, at least as parts for a 1/35. Assuming that project is successful, I would want to scale up the research to make a 1/24 Striker. Artwork for the Massport Rescue 1 (Meng F-350) is plowing along, and once finished, I need to find a place who can print them. I have decent color for the "Massport yellow" from ScaleFinishes, and tonight I'm sizing up materials for scratchbuilding the rear box. Beyond that, I'm still a n00b and bumbling my way along. Wish me luck-
hooknladderno1 Posted June 15, 2015 Author Posted June 15, 2015 SCI-FI, A lot of friends have been using a gentleman named Jeff from "Firebird Designs ". I am told his prices, quality, decals, and turn around time are great! Look forward to following your project! If you have any questions, we're all here to assist! David
