High octane
Anybody have and use cutters/scissors for photo etched parts by Xuron, and are they worth having? TIA
Brett Barrow
I have the older style (#440) they do and use them all the time. I've had them for years. They make a newer "Professional" version that's supposed to be even better. (#9180)
High octane
Thanks Brett, as I'll have to get 'em, as an Xacto blade doesn't cut it.
Roncla
I've got the #9180ET here and find them excellent. http://xuron.com/index.php/main/consumer_products/4/
Chillyb1
It is worth it at twice the price.
Nacho Z
I have a pair and they are well worth the price.
afx
I use Tamiya's. Not cheap ($20) but they are worth the price. I like that they are curved.
Toner283
Use mine all the time. I also use them for trimming out small decals from the larger sheet (easier to see with the small blades) and for thin styrene sheet when scratchbuilding. Just take care not to drop them. The ends of the blades are very delicate and bend/break easily.
Ramfins59
I use a small pair of curved baby nail scissors. They work just fine.
Chillyb1
I use a small pair of curved baby nail scissors. They work just fine. And when "just fine" isn't good enough, use the Xuron 9180ET.
High octane
I was able to pick up a pair of Xuron 9180E scissors today at my LHS and now have an addition to my tool drawer. Thanks for your recommendations.
Tom Geiger
The Xuron scissors are great for photo etch. Just don't use them for anything but photo etch. I have two pairs now. One I got tiny little dents in from cutting other stuff, and a brand new one I keep in a sleeve so I don't use it for anything else!
jbwelda
Those Tamiya Modeling Scissors for photo etch are only 14 US$ at Amazon, and that's with free shipping. check it out: http://www.amazon.com/Model-Sissors-Photo-Etched-Parts/dp/B000E7ONR0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1435897668&sr=8-2&keywords=tamiya+modeling+scissors they have the Xuron too, but I thought the Tamiya was a particularly good deal jb
aurfalien
Hi,Well, if any one had to choose between the Tamiya or Xuron 9180, which would it be?I'm finding them at the same price.
BigTallDad
Thanks Brett, as I'll have to get 'em, as an Xacto blade doesn't cut it.I use toenail clippers. If you look hard enough, you can find a pair that cuts a straight (not curved) line.

BigTallDad
Hi,Hmm, plenty of those at the dollar store. And would you rate them as working perfectly or good enough?Very few things are perfect, but these work extremely well. The straight cutting line allows you to cut very close to the part.I'm surprised none of the other posts mentioned WEAR EYE PROTECTION
High octane
I wear glasses, so that is eye protection and I always have safety glasses when using my Skill saw or Sawzall, as modern medicine has come a long way in the past 50 years but they still haven't found a way to replace the eye.
