Modlbldr Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I picked up this AMT 57 Chevy kit and was curious what year it might be. It didn't have a box, instructions or a body. The custom wheel covers are ones I've never seen and the tires are printed with white walls on one side and red lines on the other. It came with an old tube of AMT putty that is still sealed but no lid.this HTML class. Value is [URL=http://s486.pho

Snake45 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I believe AMT first had red/white tires in 1967 (and the Camaro had red/blue tires), so I imagine it would be an issue from around that time or thereabouts.
Don Sikora II Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) The last issue of the kit that came with putty and the original custom wheel covers is the first-issue "Pepper Shaker" that was released in late '68 or 1969. It's at the link posted above as kit T-280:200 with the illustration of the green drag car on the box. I have two of them that are unbuilt, but neither of mine has red/white line tires like you describe. Doesn't mean they never made any with redlines though. Both Gasser issues from '67-'68 or so should both have the original kit's custom wheel covers too.Does your kit have the rear drag wheels on the chrome tree? If so what are they? They changed in the late Sixties, so they might help ID your kit. Edited July 29, 2015 by Don Sikora II Fixed typo
