The Future of Revell...for 2024 at least.
Don Sikora II replied to niteowl7710's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes, ScaleMates is great, but the timelines are not always accurate. That said, yes, Revell’s Peterbilt tow truck is a massive conversion based on the 1982 Revell Peterbilt 359 kit. -
AMT vs Revell 69 Camaro
Don Sikora II replied to Brutalform's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The most recent issue of the Revell '69 Yenko Camaro has Fast & Furious licensing. The parts are unchanged, but it has an all-new decal sheet with many more details than the sheet that dates to the original Hot Rod release from 1990 or so. -
Ollie's strike again
Don Sikora II replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, it's not a snap kit. It is a reissue of this kit from the Hot Rod series: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-7116-firebird-street-machine--1158132 -
Kits you can't seem to have enough of.
Don Sikora II replied to Sledsel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have way too many of the old Revell '57 Chevy hardtop with opening doors. The MPC '65 Corvette annual is another favorite. Tough for me to pass those up when I see one for a good price. Also have soft spots for the Jo-Han '64 Dodge, AMT '40 Ford coupe, and AMT '32 Ford roadster (especially the original issue from 1959). -
AMT 1960 3-in-1 Ford F-100 Pickup Truck
Don Sikora II replied to rekcirb13's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The red stock version of the Revell kit (think it was #7602) from the late 90s had the crossover. The Roth version might have it too. Can't remember for sure, but there might be a few other engine pieces that aren't in the earlier versions of the kit. -
Testors reissues of Johan kits
Don Sikora II replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Okey was selling that old stock much earlier, possibly 2000 or thereabouts. The Rambler wagon and snap Turbine car were about the same time, and this was well before 2006. After the Seville liquidation, I bought two inexpensive cases of the Pro Street Rambler kits from a seller on eBay. If I remember correctly that was in 1998 or '99. -
Question about Gundam tool kits...
Don Sikora II replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Can't speak to these tools, but last year I bought a set of inexpensive (~$5) drill bits for a pin vice on Amazon that turned out to be absolutely worthless...the bits aren't able to drill holes in styrene. Sometimes the cheap stuff turns out to be surprisingly good, but that was definitely not the case with the bits that I purchased. -
Atlantis Suspension Help...Continued

If I remember correctly, the tubular axle will mount to one of the leaf springs directly (probably the low one), you don't need to use the spring mounting blocks (they work with the dropped front axle). -
Toyota V8 kit source?
Don Sikora II replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If I remember correctly, Tamiya's kit of the original Toyota Celsior/Lexus LS400 had complete engine detail. No idea how easy those kits are to track down... -
1/25 scale 10" 1960's slicks
Don Sikora II replied to ColonelKrypton's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is the Revell slick from the old Mickey Thompson Attempt 1 kit. If I remember correctly, it was made in two widths. One width for the Attempt 1, and a slightly narrower version for the Sox & Martin '67 GTX, Drag-On-Lady '67 Coronet, and possibly a few other kits. -
I tried the Revell Chrome spray today. It looks really good in person (and even better outside in the sun), but I don't think my iPhone camera is doing a great job capturing it. Seems to be very easy to apply. I sprayed it over Sixties-era Revell chrome on this wheel.

No, it didn’t.

That's the AMT 1968 Corvette annual kit. -
Revell Sauber Mercedes C9 vs Hasagawa
Don Sikora II replied to 64SS350's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Revell Sauber C9 is a reboxed version of the Hasegawa kit. -
Johan 62 Plymouth?
Don Sikora II replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm nearly certain it's a Revell ’62 Fury, that like you said started as a two-door hardtop. -
The 1:43 was under the Monogram brand....that's the only Revell or monogram '67 Corvette kit that was packed with photo etch.

Are the Esci Mercedes-Benz 190E kits any good?
Don Sikora II replied to LDO's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This one is the Fujimi kit. At different times, Revell-Germany issued both the Fujimi and the Esci Mercedes 190 kits. -

AMT GMC ASTRO and it’s changes through the years.
Don Sikora II replied to Pete68's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Man, that knock-out pin placement. Yikes! -
Yes, that's the front wheel.

Yes, SMP released a 1958 Corvette promo.
-
Yes, the SMP '60 Corvette annual had an engine. Of the 1960 annuals, SMP offered engines in the Corvette and Chevy Apache pickup. AMT had engines in the Thunderbird, Buick, and Ford F-100. SMP's '59 Corvette kit didn't include an engine, it was added for the '60 kit.

In my experience, their shipping is very fast and fairly priced. They pack well too. Would order from them without hesitation.
