AzTom Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) He's one of my current projects. I got this MM GTB in a box lot with a broken axle and seat. The tractor is a rather rare 1/16 scale model and in the $200.00 range so It needed to be saved. Edited August 3, 2015 by AzTom
GrumpyGrowly Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Great work. Edited August 21, 2015 by GrumpyGrowly
Yenkocamaro Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Cool Tom! That's one of the things I love about modeling, it's being able to scratch build whatever you need. What kind of heat source are you using to solder your brass joints? I have a hobby mini butane torch, but have yet to use it.Cheers,Lance
AzTom Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 Jonathan, That one is more detailed than mine, lol I noticed the front axle is different, maybe because it's a GB.Thanks for posting them. I think I have one like that NF also. Lance, That is what I use. It is a better one at round $30.00. I tried one of those $7.00 ones and throw it away. The best tool I have is the ceramic plate that has the holes in it. It doesn't effect the heat transfer and is perfectly flat. You can stick pins in the holes to help hold items together as well.
AzTom Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 Had to make a seat bracket as well. I'm going to have to strip the paint and start over. Way too many paint chips. I ordered some Prairie gold and new decals.
dragzz Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 az tom your work is sec to none u do great work i do like that yellow u going to use the same paint
AzTom Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Thanks dragzz, I got the tractor stripped and a new shifter and lever made. Primed with Self Etching primer.
Twokidsnosleep Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Looking good, what specific primer is that??.......it really looks like it grabbed that metal and will hold the colorLoving the brass repair work
wku88 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Nice work.Is that a Cottonwood Acres model? Don't know if you are near this guy, but he does a lot of farm toys from scratch with brass. Mostly Allis though. Armand's site
AzTom Posted August 9, 2015 Author Posted August 9, 2015 Thanks guys,The primer is Dupli-color Self etching primer. it does bite the metal quite well and it a must if you are doing diecast .Back in the old days you had to prep aluminum with a two step acid rocess. I have used other brands but like the Dupli-color the best. Todd, You have to be a farm toy guys to know this is a Wally Hooker Cottonwood model. I have known Armand for over ten years. He builds some of the best brass stuff I have ever seen.
wku88 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Yeah, Tom, I have a pretty extensive Allis collection myself. Cottonwood is about the only source for those letter series Molines!
AzTom Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 I have some from Mohr and SpecCast also. Got some paint on it. Thanks for looking.
AzTom Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 Thanks Todd. This enamel so it will cure for about a week before I finish it up.
swede70 Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Very nice, very confident and assured work underway. Don't forget that all important Thrush woodpecker decal! Mike K.
Chevythunder85 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 My great gradfather worked at the plant! I love the restoration! Looking sharp.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Very Nice!! I Like old tractors!!!! The real ones became too expensive, so I went back to models (LOL). Great work!!
AzTom Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 Thanks Brian, I only had one real tractor, a Ford 8n with a Wagner loader. Making the loader out of brass in on my bucket list. I do love the model tractors and several thousand to back that up,lol Ok, back to the MM. I have a serious problem, can't find the new front axle. What do you think so far? I don't know how long my helper can hold this so I'm off to find that axle.
GrumpyGrowly Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) hope you find the front axle, at least you have this post as blue print if you have to make a new one. Edited August 21, 2015 by GrumpyGrowly
AzTom Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 I found it, Last week I took it up to the great room to show the wife what I was working on and then set it on the top of a display cabinet, dinner was ready Ready for the show. Parked with a few more Molines

wku88 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Turned out real nice! Now you need to make a set of Wheatland fenders for it!
AzTom Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 Thanks, I wanted to keep this one as close to original as I could. I'm sure I have some MM's with Wheatland fenders packed away.
