uncle potts Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Just had my right knee scoped this morning. Torn miniscus on the inside and the outside of the knee. They could fix the inside tear, they cut a away the torn piece. However the outside tear they could not fix because of the direction of the tear. Doc says I will probably only have a 70% recovery. The only fix for this knee if this surgery doesn't reduce the pain is a new replacement joint. I will have to have it replaced in the next 5 to 10 years, regardless. This has been a tough couple of years.right hip replaced, left knee replaced, left rotator cuff repair, twice. And now this. To top it off, I can no longer do my job due to the restrictions the doc has put on me. I'm a welder and livestock trailer mechanic, which is a very physical job. Lots of climbing, crawling, and heavy lifting. So now I have to find different employment, and I've been doing this type of work for the last 23 years. Makes for some sleepless nights. The up side, maybe I can get to the workbench more often. Thanks for letting an "old man" vent a little frustration. Paul.
cobraman Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Sorry to hear all this. I sincerely hope things will get better for you. Stay strong !

disabled modeler Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Paul...Stay strong mental attitude has a lot to do with ones health and healing...I know this first hand...almost died from a car accident in 96 and have been through many myself. Will have you in our prayers....hang in there.
Harry P. Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I know how you feel. I've been fighting my own medical battles for the last several months now. Nothing even close to what you're facing, but still, enough problems so that I know the frustration of being held back by medical issues. It feels like some outside force has taken over your body. The feeling of loss of control is the worst... knowing that the medical issues are now "in charge." It sucks. Good luck to you.
High octane Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Yes medical issues can be very stressful, however good health is the key to a longer and happier life. Like it or not, most of the time we just have to deal with these issues.

slusher Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I was disabled at 34 fro MS, everyday of life is good there is so much to enjoy. I models left handed and have very little use of my right had and arm. I hang out here when not building or watching TV i enjoy all the friends here and conversations. Life is still good it just changes. Hang in there...
uncle potts Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Thanks for the encouragement guys. The doc said after the procedure that my recovery will probably only be 70%. This means major life changes, and like many of you, I feel too young for this, at 56. The Mrs has been very supportive, this would have been much harder without her. I'm a lucky guy to have her. Some have said I need to file for disability. I don't think I'm there quite yet. Fortunately the Mrs and I started downsizing and simplifying our lives about 8 years ago. So our expenses are not as bad a it could be. We will get through all this, its frustrating at times.
Ridge Rider Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Paul, your situation with health and well being sounds very similar to alot of people on this forum, myself included. Best wishes and stay positive. More bench time?

disabled modeler Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Hang in there bud....you already have a great support team here many of us have faced the challenges of being disabled for one reason or another. When I had my car accident in 1996 I was only married for 3 years and only 29 years old...everything has to change for us but we made it. Its a huge learning process to teach yourself new ways to do things you once did easily...time will heal you buddy. Building has been my escape from 24/7 pain they can do nothing for....if I can do it you can trust yourself to overcome anything tossed at you.
