Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to my first model club meeting. It's in the next town over, only about 5 or 6 miles away. Every one was very nice. There were some nice builds there also. I met tubbs and Badluck 13 from this forum. Both really good guys. Thought it was ironic Badluck had a wrist brace on. His daughter was with him also. It's always nice to see young people sharing a hobby with their parents. Anyhow, I just thought it was worth mentioning. I hope you other folks on here have the opportunity to attend functions like this and I hope your experience is as pleasant as mine was. Thanks, Mike.

You can't beat having a club!  When I first got back into the hobby as an adult about 30 years ago, I saw a club advertised in Scale Auto. I was curious and attended a meeting... that was  big turning point in my life since I'm still with that club!  With peers, instantly my models got 100% better as I got critiqued and they showed me how to do different things.  And some of these guys have been my good friends for all that time too!

I really miss being in a club.  When I lived in NY I was in the L.I.A.R.S. Club and have been a member since 1992.  Since I no longer drive due to peripheral vision loss after my stroke back in 2000, I can't get to any of the local club's meetings here in the Pittsburgh area.  I've inquired as to whether any of the local clubs members (South Hills Modelers & Three Rivers Automodelers) live in my area, so I can "hitch a ride" but none of their members live near me.

I joined our club "City Style Model Club "

Sacramento Ca

AYear after I started building Models again I remember my first meeting I was nervous brought in my best model and behold yes it looked like a beginners Model ?

But with the Help Tips and the support of our Club I can Honestly Say I owe a lot of my knowledge to being in a Club

So I would encourage anyone to seek out and find a Model Car Near You are start one yourself

I sell kits on Craig's List and have introduced them to our Club ?

Going to MAMA meetings were very special to me. I enjoyed them and the friendships made. Lyle W and Norm Veber are now two people I count among friends. Plus one of my best friends of all time Billy B is another I met there as well. Now being in Mass again I realize how good i had it [I realized then though]. I could go up to Norm and order from him on the spot. He always brings tons to the meetings as well. Plus the discounted kits galore.

Looks like Masscar is getting a new member soon. if you're a member I'll see you there.

I joined the SCMA two years in a row and never made it to a meeting. My work/travel schedule is such that I always found myself out of town on meeting nights. I have made it to several of their events and if time would ever permit, I will join again and attend meetings.

Glad to hear you found a good club and you get as much out of it as you can.

There are guys who have told me there is no model club in their area.  My response is always, "Well, start one!"   Then they respond with questions as complicated as asking if there are state forms needed to start a club, etc.   No!  It's super easy.  For instance,  I find out that there is another modeler in my town. So I invite him over on a Saturday and show him my stuff.  The following week I'm at Michaels, and there's a guy looking at models.  We get talking and I get his email address.  The next month, I've got two guys coming over.  Is three people a club?    Oh yea!   And you can build it from there.   Keep it as simple as you want,  as long as you have a few friends who enjoy getting together to talk models,  it's a club!

Bob, MassCar is meeting next Wednesday, August 19, at the Porter & Chester Institute on the Canton/Stoughton line.

My route from Dartmouth St. when I lived down there, they were in Dedham, but the general route is as follows, as it's almost the same route to Randolph when I subbed there.

Fight Rockdale Ave. back up to Kempton St., go left on Kempton, stop at the Hess (now Speedway) for gas if needed unless I could actually get into Cumby's at Rockdale and Dartmoth, or Paul's Service on Dartmouth, and continue to 140 and go north to Taunton. Hang right onto Rt. 24 north. Fight 24 up to Rt. 139. Now...here's where it changes.

Take the exit for 139 towards Stoughton. You'll see Turnpike St. on your right, look for Randolph Savings Bank's main office. Turn Right onto Turnpike St., and follow that all the way to the corner. Drive straight into the PCI building, and bear left. Go around to the auto shop. Next to the bay door, you'll see a glass door with a stairway. Go up the stairs and we're usually up there. Periodically, if they're using the room up there, we'll meet downstairs in one of the classrooms. Meetings start about 7:00, someone's usually there by 6:00-6:30.

Any questions, let me know.
