om617 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Mock up and adjustments are really fun,it looks beautiful.
60s era Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Sweet Ride.. That interior is just Beautiful ! ! Excellent work ..
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 9, 2015 Author Posted September 9, 2015 Thanks guys! Been pretty lazy the past couple of nights. Not a lot happening on it. But I know if I leave it sitting by my Lazy Boy like in the pics, it's faint crying will eventually call me back to the bench. Steve
John Goschke Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Beautiful! That stance looks just about perfect to me – nice "California Rake!"
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 (edited) Just thought I'd add a couple more pics of the progress on this build to let you know that I am still building! The dash is ready to be installed for the most part. Might do a couple more small touch ups. Most of the dashboard photos that I had seen of '61 Buicks showed a dash mounted clock, so I scratch built one. The rest is just paint & foil. Steve Edited September 20, 2015 by StevenGuthmiller
59 Buick Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Great interior and detailing, looking forward to seeing this finished.regardsMarty
snacktruck67 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Steve, you never fail to amaze. This is going to be a winner hands down.
charlie8575 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 That dash is incredible.Charlie Larkin
Tom Geiger Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Love the dash mounted clock Steve! You are right, that was a typical option. My 1960 had one. I sent both that clock and my speedometer off to be rebuilt. Never unpacked the box! Gave the sealed package to the new owner when I sold it.
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Thanks guys! This dash was a little tough to replicate with the white gauge faces & red speedo numbers. It's pretty hard to see them, but what rudimentary numbers there are, are red.The clock is just a piece of sprue sanded & shaped to mimic the real one with a cast clock face. Not real happy with the clock face, but it'll do. Steve
Ramfins59 Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 That is looking great Steve. Your interiors are outstanding.
John Goschke Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Terrific work on that dash and steering wheel! Amazing what careful detail painting and foilwork can do for these old annual kits.As I recall, the speedometer face in the '61 Buicks, and maybe the '60s, was a mirror that reflected the image to the driver of the actual gauges embedded in the dash below it. Kinda gimmicky, but fun to look at!

Kinda gimmicky, but fun to look at! Yes, the '61s at least, were mirrored. They spent a lot of time back in this era to come up with new funky "Gimmicks". But they were kind of cool. I think I would have had a heck of a time recreating this particular speedometer with absolute accuracy! Steve Edited September 21, 2015 by StevenGuthmiller
Tom Geiger Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 The 1960 was also mirrored. I owned one. The speedometer had a cylinder in it that was half black and half red. As you sped up the cylinder turned to fill a clear slot on the speedo face so that it appeared that the line filled up below the speed numbers. It was an interesting effect, way cool in 1960! Unfortunately this was mechanical and prone to problems. I had to send mine to a speedometer shop in the hobby to be rebuilt.

Nice idea, but did any of you Buick owners have trouble with reflections or glare at night?
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 I really needed to finish up at least part of this project just to keep me moving on it! So, here's the interior. The body is done for the most part, but I've barely begun on the engine. That's where I'm headed next. I'm hoping it will go much faster than the interior did! Steve
Danno Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 That interior is spectacular but the dashboard is awesome! Whew! I gotta go cool off. Way hot!
peekay Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Steve, that is really beautifully done . "Nobody does it better," (Carly Simon).
