I was surprised at the dimensional differences between the parts in the  Revell and AMT kits.I wanted to use some AMT pieces to customize the Revell body(dual headlamp housings, front roll pan/grille housing, tail lamp bezels) but with size and shape differences I'd be looking at something of a putty blob as a finished product.Even the stock bumpers are very different in size.

Really? most should have worked. Granted, you need to trim out the lower front fenders for the roll pan, but the width is fine, I just checked on a Del Rio.

My AMT bumper fits the custom fine, but I an using the valance from the AMT.

The paint is Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze Gloss. Light primer first, wet sanded primer with 1500 wet. After, 3 light coats then a wet coat.

I could see the front bumper being usable with AMT valance panel but the rear bumper-no way.

The rear is different anyway. Fairlane series only.

Width wise it is good tho. Just would need the AMT mount

I like your color choice. The differences really are noticeable when it's painted and corrected.

I mean, really, even OOB, it doesn't look all that bad, but how much extra effort would it have taken to get basic contours correct?

I'm sure some pinhead in accounting made a good business case, and like most of the major car companies now, design by the Treasurer's staff will yield problems.

Andy, you're to be congratulated on this.

And I agree with Bill, if you can scare up an inexpensive used digital camera, anything about 3MP and up, you'll be in good shape.

Thank you Charlie, it is very appreciated. The corrections using the AMT donor was not too bad. Maybe 4 hours total work time from cutting to paint

Work on this has stopped til I have a camera to get better pics. I have another Custom on the way and am painting the same color OOB, and will get side by side comparisons.

I am chopping another AMT for that one, but plan to cast the panels for future builds so I do not need to chop up any more. I will document that build with better pics.

I am half tempted to mail a corrected body to Revell with a letter stating that this is how it should look. I am a jerk like that.... HAHAHAHAHA

I have a Del Rio chopped up here now, they did some work on the front fenders, and other than the body line looking better, the wheel opening is grossly over sized... again, I personally was disappointed.

Great job on this Andy.

Maybe if you bring this car to the NNL Nationals the Revell guys will see it. They do tend to be there, and are nice guys to talk  to. Just be kind we need them to show up every year. Part of the show.

Great work, Andy! Looking forward to crisp photos from your new camera.

Oh, and don't tell anybody else, but did you notice how the top edge of the fins on the Del Rio curve up for the first inch and a quarter or so. They should be straight. It's the same on the Custom Tudor but is less noticeable because of the trim.

Thank You

I did notice that on the Del Rio..... trying to figure how to fix it. Shhh....

Inspirational to watch you correct what should have been right to start with. I have a couple of these and may try a different approach, now that you've so kindly pointed out what exactly is wrong.

Great color choice for this car, by the way.

Honestly, this is a good idea, and by doing so, it might help to highlight exactly what went wrong.

I've met Ed Sexton a couple of times. He's a very nice guy and will listen to what's said, but a lot of what happens beyond the conceptual stage is, unfortunately, out of his control.

As far as a camera goes, I think you could keep using your phone, just take pictures from farther away, then crop them. The blur you get looks like it's because you're too close for it to focus properly. Just a suggestion, as I do have a Nikon digital, but found the iPhone just as good and way more convenient as I always have it with me.
