I've started on my AITM V16. I have a question about the assembly on the right side with the two filters ( orange arrow). Is that an oil cooler? It has a line to the water pump and what looks like two oil filters.,And what about the other filters up on the water manifold (yellow arrow)? Also, is there one of those articles on detailing this engine?

What do you suggest I put in the rear (flywheel?) until it goes in a truck.

Pat,the filters on the side of the engine are oil filters. they are mounted to the oil coolers.the filters at the top front are fuel filters. Some times the oil filters would be mounted remotely from the engine to make them more accessible to service them.

Thanks Mike.

what are you putting it in

Right now it'll be in a diorama as a display item. That's a pretty big engine to put in a road going vehicle but I'm sure it's been done.

Looked all over the big Dutch Fokti trucking site and I found the parts manual for the Payhauler. Quickly turned to the engine page to find a note:"Refer to the Detroit Diesel Manual" Then the light came on. My son in law is service manager at a Kenworth dealership. He may have the DD 71 series manual.

Pat, if you are going to display it like that it should be fairly easy to make up a flywheel to go on the back end in the housing that is there. Google

16v71 detroit diesel and there are some photos there to give you some ideas. You might need a bigger lift truck in the shop now,LOL

I've looked at a lot of photos on the internet and can't figure out where those two lines from the oil cooler go to. Also, where from and where to go the lines at the fuel filters?

That looks good,Pat. Nice detailing. I think the lines you're referring to are part of a device to cut off or limit fuel flow in the event of

the engine loosing oil pressure. It would also not allow the engine to accelerate until it develops a minimum amount of oil pressure.

The fuel lines are mainly between the two banks of cylinders on the front of the engine.

I've got the starter left to install and oil & fuel lines once I find out where they go. Otherwise it is almost there.

Granted this is a V12, but you get the idea. Your V16 would look awesome behind some big COE.

With this sheet from the net & a consultation with my daughter's father in law who has all the manuals, I was able to cobble a semblance of fuel delivery system

Wow, this is beautiful detailing! I'd leave it out to be seen instead of installing it in a truck and just show it once in a while! As far as a V16 being installed in a truck, Werner has a show truck that has a twin turbocharged Detroit 16V92 in a freightliner Classic!! See the engine here: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/500603314801562909/  And a picture of the truck is on this page: http://photo.net/no-words-forum/00Tkqn
