Hello,

Still dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane. Some areas are still in "emergency" mode and the road ahead is long and steep.  But I'm trying to get some sense of "normalcy" back.  I still have no internet service at home. so doing this from the phone is a major PAIN.

In the past few days, I've been working a bit on the snap 2014 C7 Corvette.  This kit is a snapper on the cheap end of the spectrum. So there is not much to be expected.  Details and molding are disappointing even for a snapper.

The chassis is all one piece.  Not much can be done with the holes for the screws.  I detail paint it mostly with craft acrylics.

Moving into the interior, the details and engraving are even more disappointing.  I found an acrylic craft paint color called "Pueblo" which resembles the C7 Kalahari option I wanted.  This was my first time airbrushing acrylic craft paint and it was harder than I thought.  There is a very fine line between too dry, too wet and disastrous.  The instrument cluster and the screen logo were home printed in photo paper and trimmed.  I really like this interior color combo.  This scheme resembles a 3LT interior option (leather covered dash, door panels etc. and suede covered steering wheel which was drybrushed with gray).  Still pending are the seat belts to put together the otherwise box stock interior.  The tub has black flocking.

Anyways, nothing extraordinary, but it feels good to be back.

Thanks,

Hello,

Slowly churning along.  Not much to be expected from this rather crude  basic kit.  Spent a lot of time scratchbuilding seatbelts, buckles, guides and receptors but are very hard to see.  Oh well. :)

Hello,

Perfect Paint job: Take 2!   After painting and clearing, this was on route to become the perfect paint job.  Started polishing and it was looking really awesome! But then, the next morning I took a look and the paint had blisters all over! Tiny little blisters all over the body.  So after a few choice words, It is back to square one. I chose not to strip it but rather sand it down to ensure the best possible surface.  Next: Primer take 2!

As of now I have 3 theories as to what went wrong:

The Hurricane
The Government
Aliens

You've got a cool project going, Ismael!!!  Considering what you've got to work with, this is going to be a gorgeous Vette when you're finished if the interior is any indication!!!  I've got a couple of Vette kits, one being a snapper, so I'll be following your build from here on out!!!????????

I have a song in my mind:

"And here I go,

Going down the only road

Hello,

Laguna Blue Paint job, take two, in progress.  This is after 2 light coats and one medium-wet coat.  So far so good.  Will let it sit for careful inspection before one final wet coat and eventual clear.

Been there, done that. I've had countless instances where I have to start all over with paint jobs. You just gotta keep trying and trying until it meets your expectations.
Your Corvette is looking great so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome.

Hello,

Carefully inspected after color coats.  Clear was applied.   Sat for a few days and tested polishing the roof.  Looks good so far so I'll go ahead and start polishing the body.

Abso-freaking-lutely LOVE this color!

That is looking great so far. Yesterday at our club meeting M.A.M.A., I ran into one of our members who happens to one a one-to-one Corvette in that color combination. I raved about this thread, and told him to check it out.

Hello,

The paint and polish gods are smiling at me this time.  After careful inspection there are a few tiny little rub spots I need to take care of.  Very small and not worth airbrushing again. I think I'll just touch it up with a small paint brush if any.  Still pending show glaze polish before masking and painting the black trim. Then a final wax coat at the end.
Scalefinishes G7H Laguna blue paint and Scalefinishes clear.

I don't want to jinx it but it seems 2018 will finally be the year I can finish a model for the first time since 2009!  That will be a nine years slump!

Thanks,

Hello,

Can I stop polishing now?  My elbow, wrist and fingers hurt! :)

Hello again!

Happy New Year!

Masked and airbrushed the lower part of the rear bumper.

20171230_184123a.jpg.6943b469615fcf4e9cd22ee4bcaa3243.jpg

Then had a lot of fun free hand brush painting the black molded details: Grille, hood vent, side vents, rear vents etc.

You may notice all emblems were shaved off. Stay tuned for more on that....

Slowly but surely moving along.

Thanks!

Hello,

Masked and painted the black trim on the windows.  Added a scratchbuilt rear view mirror, a glaring omission in the kit.  Just the basic shape. I thought about adding OnStar but it won't be seen. :)

Funny story, when doing the mirror, I was going to hold it with a small alligator clip for painting when it went flying into the 5th dimension.  Almost gave up the search and was about to start another one when it magically reappeared about 5 feet from the workbench.

Hello,

This project is moving along.  Made my own front splitter and side ground effects.  First coat of paint. Will sand it down before final color coat.
