I built this from plasticard and various bits from the parts bin whilst waiting for glue/paint to dry on my Mountain Bike Transporter in the car thread on here.

pretty cool Pat....they need to make a kit of the VW Thing in 1/25th or 1/24rth scale.

They certainly do need to make one in the 'right scale'! There are plenty of the Kubels in 1/35th but that's no good is it?

No Pat they really do need to make some in our scale....I have many ideas for builds of those plus one could make a cool dune buggy or surf rod with one let alone a factory stock...we can dream at least...:)

Now there's another idea for a modified 181/Thing in surf/beach/dune look! Yes do keep dreaming, that's where I get most of my ideas for changing kits as I build them, waking at 2 or 3 am and writing things down!

If anyone looks at a model of anything long enough they will be able to see other options for a building version of it Pat....that is how I get ideas for builds often.  I built a 69 Plymouth  4door wagon from a 68 GTX HT kit...LOL... I like my 60s/70s wagons.  In high school a buddy and I took a VW Thing and put it on a Jeep chassis...was fun the drive around in and would go almost anywhere...LOL...

Cheers Wayne and Carl. It's nothing special just something  really basic. .I suppose using plasticard is OK for flat surfaces no difficult bits to do!

Yes you say that so we must be able to do it! I've built lots of the AMT Meyers Manx over the last 2-3 years and changed most everything except the chassis anf Beetle engine. I bought a Flintstone Resin Manx kit body and windscreen. Used the paddle type tyres front and back and a Corvair motor and a Dakar Mitsubishi 4X4 running gear and hey presto another idea comes to fruition ! I'm presently thinking about a six wheel Manx design with a woody truck bed and a woody trailer from a Model T kit!

Ah well back to reality, I'm replacing some fencing round the garden if it doesn't rain today.

Hasegawa did a very nice Kubelwagen in 1/24!

As I've built one now so I won't need another, thanks for offering.

the T181 is vastly different from a Kubel in many areas. They are a from-scratch design using the Kubel concept and VW's existing (at the time) parts bin.... not that an accurate model wouldn't be great to have!
