Craig Irwin Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) Not to mention that the AMT model A kit has stock rear wheel wells, an early Ford manual transmission and a rear buggy spring. Edited September 12, 2015 by Craig Irwin

Just my opinion. Hack-n-whack Round 2 can't afford to do new tooling ?? Really, have you looked at some of the new tooling they have done in the past few years for different Star Trek and other Sci-fi builders ?? Some of those kits are not cheap to buy and couldn't have been cheap to tool up. Why would they bother doing anything but reissues of automotive kits when they car make more money selling Sci-fi kits. Don't try to reply about this saying the licensing is killing new car models, those Star Trek licenses Space 1999, and others aren't cheap and easy to get either.
stavanzer Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Yeah, and when the "A Team" at Round2 does a kit, the 'love' that they have for the History of the Kit and the Hobby are clearly evident. When they are at the top of their game, it really shows. My olny real peeve, is when you get kits like the '79 Firebird, that are just clearly a case of "Phoning It In".I'm spoiled by the really good kits with all the missing parts restored and multiple sets of tires, ect.I'd surely vote for restoring this Model A / Ala Kart kit being the next major kit they tackled.Alan

And the hood. The Fenders, Body, Tuck& roll top, and Interior are there too. The Frame is there, but most of the suspension has been altered. The Ala Kart Bed is missing too, The Chrome tree, that featured the "Red Ram Hemi" valve covers, Firewall, and windshield frame, is in the kit, but not chromed, and with about half of the parts that were on it blocked off. I'm not sure that they can be restored. IMHO, it would be a better bet to re-tool this kit back to original, rather than try to foist the early 2000's new tool Ala Kart on us. That dog of a kit is rightly condemned. Alan While the modern tooled Ala Kart has it's short comings (like the engine being, literally, too short) it does have good value as a parts donor for the hot rod kit basher. For instance, the excellent set of big & little whitewalls tires, chrome/reverse wheels and brakes. The beam axle has a healthy drop and if one doesn't like the air spring suspension a conventional spring can be glued on top of it (the stock axle spring from the original AMT '29 Roadster kit fits quite nice and is pretty flat for setting the front end LOW). And, while the engine (and therefor heads/valve covers/intakes) is too short the front cover/water pump, belt drive, generator and fan are scaled well and can be glued to the front of the Dodge Red Ram in the original AMT '29 Roadster kit which (except for the Ala Kart double kits) comes with a competition only blower setup. This lets you build a streetable version of the Dodge Red Ram! The picture below shows the modern Ala Kart engine front drive parts attached to the original '29 Roadster Dodge Red Ram engine. Also shown is the modern Ala Kart front axle fitted with the spring from the stock axle in the AMT original '29 and the modern Ala Kart front wheels, tires and brakes. Hosted on Fotki The finished model also uses the modern Ala Kart rear wheels & tires and the custom taillights. On this model the wheel chrome was stripped off and they were painted with hubcaps from the AMT '53 Ford Truck. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki The picture below shows a Lindberg '34 Ford Pickup frame modified with the full modern Ala Kart suspension. The only thing I changed was deleting the rear torque tube and radius rods for short trailing arms and a live drive shaft. Hosted on Fotki Same chassis as a roller also using the modern Ala Kart wheels, tires and brakes. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Same model finished. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki So you see, the modern Ala Kart definitely has redeeming value!

Not to mention, these would look great in our "Traditional Hot Rods" Cult Theme Display at the NNL Nats in a few weeks.....TIM
charlie8575 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 The AMT underpinnings, combined with what is said to be a very nice new Revell body would have interest to me, as it appears that body is stock.I wouldn't mind another A in my library. I'd love to see some resin bodies for the AMT A, like a Tudor, Fordor or phaeton. I even remember seeing a picture of a factory-built town car. That would be cool- rep-stock guys would like that, and I can see some very interesting rods being done with that.Re: new tools. AMT has done some new tools, mostly unassembled-promo-style, but they're out there. I'd like to see them do a new glue kit- perhaps they'll take on a full-detail pickup that won't cost $75? The new Silverado seems to be selling very well, and I've not seen a lot of the new F-series around here, perhaps a new full-size Chevy pickup? Charlie Larkin

stavanzer Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Dennis, I stand corrected. Your work is simply Outstanding! I have a new tool Ala Kart in my stash. It was shipped 'factory sealed' with two beds and no body. Now I have some ideas where to use the parts. Thanks.Alan

stavanzer Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Yes, Greg, we do.And given the Long Green that was laid out to get the Three Stooges Licensing, it only makes sense to extend the brand. This kit will sell more to "Three Stooges" collectors than model builders, I am guessing. Also, I want Round2 to make as much Money as possible, so that maybe they'll Fund the 29 / Ala Kart kit. That's business.
