khier Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Why isn't there any luggage and similar accessories for 1/24 models? I mean what is the use to have an open trunk when it remains empty? Imagine the difference when you add suitcase inside your Fujimi Porsche 356 and ski racks on the back, or a red leather suitcase in your Tamiya 300 SL.Or better see yourself.
SfanGoch Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Why isn't there any luggage and similar accessories for 1/24 models?Probably for the same reason there aren't any decent figures in 1/24 or 1/25. It seems like auto modelers, unlike scale armor guys, aren't interested in ancillary accessories to spiff up their builds.
Howard Cohen Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Many American kits in the 60s had luggage racks and luggage as accessory items. It should not be that hard to make your own.
DumpyDan Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 There are a few kits that have luggage pieces in them. The Johan Rambler wagon has one and I think some MPC 30's cars with figures also had some. I am sure there are others.
SfanGoch Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 You guys are missing Walid's point. His question was about presently available accessory sets, not complete car kits. And, you both reference kits that were produced 30-40+ years ago. Besides, buying a kit of a subject that you have no particular interest in just to obtain a few specific parts makes no sense, especially if you have to pay a premium price for it.

The simplest way is to take a piece of balsa wood, shape it to the desired form then cover it with any imitation of fabric or leather. The problem is I could not find a proper imitation of leather. Both faux and genuine leather are too thick to make a suitcase in 1/24

Model car builders including myself (although I have not touched a kit for 7 years now) are generally not interested in dioramas. But small details like these adds a lot to models. The same goes to cargo items for trucks, horse trailers, camping trailers, surf boards,... etc....etc.....As for the figures themselves we may use figures from the model railway world, but yes, we never gave it a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH care to have figures because we are trained to spray and polish rather than wash and dry brush.
Eshaver Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 1-24th scale luggage is available through a few of the Doll house sites I deal with . With me , dioramas are my focus . I see the world in scale and what isn't made , I scratchbild
cobraman Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 If I remember right Harry built some beautiful luggage. You might check out some of his builds if you decide to try and make some.

Just placing a vehicle on jack stands or ramps changes the focus quite a bit, and once you add one extra, others follow and you get, well, a scene telling a story from a moment in time.
Mike Chernecki Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I would have thought Tamiya would have included luggage in the Mercedes GullWing. Many photos of a GullWing I have seen have fitted luggage.
SfanGoch Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) Well, I build armor. Adding some stowage on a vehicle doesn't necessarily dictate a shift to a diorama. Those small, incidental details add a little life to what would normally be a plain model. It's the same with PE keys, sunglasses on the dash, a magazine or paper on the front seat, etc. Even a 1/24-1/25 Billy Batts in the opened trunk of an AMT '65 Bonneville adds some pizzazz to a relatively mundane modeling subject. Mike Chernecki Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Has anyone tried the scale fabrics/leathers from Model Factory Hiro?

torinobradley Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Do a search for "G Scale Luggage" as this is the scale most like 1/24-1/25. I believe it is actually 1/22.5. There are some available but most will probably need some repaints or figure/interior painting methods to make them look good.

Drake69 Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Also, cutting and shaping styrofoam blocks to match luggage pieces and then wrapping them in fabric or painting them to look like Samsonite would be very easy to do. Making custom roof racks on trunks for bicycles or skis are just as easy.
Atmobil Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Yes, please give us more sets of luggage and stuff to put in car (also figures). I have collected quite a few figures over the years and also some stuff to put inside my models. I put a suitcase on the passengerseat in a 64 Ford some years ago and a scratchbuilt Yucca palm in the backseat and a female driver from Fujimis drivers set. The suitecase came from AMT (old MPC) 32 Chrysler. I also filled the trunk and the interior of a 49 Mercury, scratchbuilt cardboardbox, tools from variuos kits and a sack of potatoes from Tamiya 1:35 field kitchen kit. Old newspapers and a brakechute from some other kit as a parcel on the backseat.
disabled modeler Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I have always liked the accessories kits came with and think they could do well on the market myself....these small extras can be used on any build and do bring another factor into the builds looks. Scale figures and skeletons, mini bikes, tools, luggage, jacks, etc. all can make a build look completely different once done...I am always on the lookout for more figures myself for a few builds and dioramas I have planed to do.
Howard Cohen Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Several years ago I asked Revell about releasing a kit/assortment of figures from the various kits they had, such as American Graffiti, Ed Roth, Mickey Thompson, Linda Vaughan, etc. Their answer was that the distributors did not think it was a good idea and they would not place an order. The idea was dropped. I believe the same result happened when Revell asked about the 'Parts Pack' kits Last year, a friend worked on getting the old Ulrich Mini-Men released. They did release them but the sales were very poor and I have not heard anything since. In the end, although all of you would buy some, that is not enough to go into production, with a minimum being 500 pieces

No market potential due to lack of customer interest. Go get yer scratchbuilding box and make some shiny Samsonite.
