dragzz Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 just thot id ask what clear coat are u useing for that paint
horsepower Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I really like the green, I saw a Merc done in almost the same combination, except that they used a transparent candy green over the black base. It looks like a deep black until the light hits it then you can pick up the green, have you checked to see if you can file the leaves on the top of the front axle to drop it down, you will probably have to file the tab that goes into the cross member a like amount, plus trim the tops on the shock links at the end of the springs.
Roadrunner Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Nice start! Â I like green! Â There's my Vicky above. Thanks, Tom, I appreciate it. Did you bore out the front of the horn on yours? Mine is molded solid. Sure would be nice if there was a way to lower your car Kevin. Any chance of using the Revell axles etc. ?Thanks, Wayne. Apparently I made an error and the rear can easily be dropped some, for a more natural sit. Once I verify that, I'll shoot some more photos.
Roadrunner Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 just thot id ask what clear coat are u useing for that paintIt's Testors Wet Look, straight from the can, then polished. Looks OK?
Roadrunner Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 I found the hood from my first (mangled) Vic, and to my relief, it's almost the exact same color density, so that's a good thing.
dragzz Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 roadrunner  the clear coat looks great so i like how the model is look so far great workÂ

The idea really appeals to me. I should be able to drop the front as you suggest, so I thank you for that suggestion. The front end is glued solid, but I can chop it loose and redo it if need be.roadrunner  the clear coat looks great so i like how the model is look so far great work Thanks for that, Thomas. I'm very much hoping to improve my finishes over time, but for the moment I'm quite pleased, especially given all the problems I've had in the last few months.
dragzz Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 hello roadrunner i use auto air paint and wicked air  both made form the same  . yes it a water base paint u might want to look in to that as well. just thot id let u know
blunc Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) I'm considering several possibilities for paint on future projects, including candies over other colors. (snip) This was painted with a base coat of insignia red (for the body and radiator shell), a base coat of metallic red for the fender assembly and candy apple red for the glossy top coat over both the insignia red and the metallic red. Keep in mind this paint job is probably thirty years old. IMG_4612 by Mike, on Flickr Edited October 9, 2015 by blunc corrections and image code

Tom Geiger Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Thanks, Tom, I appreciate it. Did you bore out the front of the horn on yours? Mine is molded solid.  Yes. I drilled it with a drill bit and then honed it by turning a number 11 blade round and round until I got the shape I wanted.  There are probably better horns in other kits.  Surprised I remember since I built this around 25 years ago Edited October 9, 2015 by Tom Geiger
Roadrunner Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Yea, the horn as supplied in the kit, is pretty lame, Tom. I'll doctor it up the best that I can.
horsepower Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 If you want to try something different, I did some experiments on spoons looking for a dark candy purple and the one that really excited me was using Metal Flecks metallic blue (more like a metalflake actually) for the base and the transparent red anodizing color from the same brand (Krylon) came out with a very dark purple that just lights up with a direct light, I tried using a white LED inside a polished on the inside aluminum tube to make a mini spotlight and it worked very well and can be powered by AA batteries or just a single even, hidden under a display base.
Roadrunner Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Interesting ideas, HP, I'll keep them in mind. Over the course of the next dozen or so cars, I intend to do a little experimentation with different colors/effects. We'll see what happens there I guess.
Roadrunner Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Another snag, but I guess I'll just move on past it;... kit has no decals for the dash! I'll check what little spares I currently have, but don't have a lot of hope of finding anything. On the next Vic, I'll probably hunt down some AM stuff.
Roadrunner Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 (edited) I've now adjusted the rear and front end. The front is not quite as low as I'd like, but I think I'll leave it this way. Edited October 12, 2015 by Roadrunner
Roadrunner Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015 Work continues at a snails pace, but at least I now have the spare tire base coated with the Blazing Black.
Roadrunner Posted December 12, 2015 Author Posted December 12, 2015 (edited) A few weeks back, I masked and painted the flat black areas, only to have the flat black come out glossy,... no idea what happened there. I then realized that I had no Dullcote here, and finally just picked up some this week, so this part is now finished. A few touch-ups here and there, and I believe it will be time for final assembly (I think). Not much of an update, but better than none at all I guess. Edited December 12, 2015 by Roadrunner
wayne swayze Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I'm still tuned in..... still like the green and black!
Roadrunner Posted December 13, 2015 Author Posted December 13, 2015 Thanks, Wayne. This certainly won't be my last Vicky, next one will be 100% period stock.
