ChrisBcritter Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) Hoo boy. I really hope you're finding smooth plastic under all that goo - no lacquer check or 80 grit sanding marks.I wonder if you could modify the SC/Rambler hood to match? Basically re-contour the front profile and fill in the scoop hole. Edited October 14, 2015 by ChrisBcritter
charlie8575 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I still say it will polish out!    Looks like it was painted with a Q-Tip. Bring it to the meeting.  We can pass it around while we eat the fried chicken. Maybe the chicken grease will help the stripper! Let me know how that works, Tom. If it attacks glue, even better, I have a whole bunch that need some glue removal! Al, I can't wait to see what you do with this, and I know it'll be good. Charlie Larkin
charlie8575 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Well after 4 days in Purple Power, I come to realize the person who painted it had stock in a paint company This thing has 7 or 8 coats of paint, but it's coming off slow but sure. Because the bumpers and wheel covers were also brush painted, I didn't even bother to take it apart when it went in the tank. I'll redo the chrome with Alclad. It's not pretty yet. Al Egad! At least the plastic looks decent. Question: will the tires survive the Purple Power, or are you planning to replace those as well? Charlie Larkin
Eric Macleod Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Better you than me! Based upon the photos of the Lincoln there is a bright future for this model.
Porscheman Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Update: After 5 days in Purple Power, the bare plastic is finally showing through. This is a tough strip, usually it only takes 24 hours. I'm going to let it soak for another day to get the remaining paint off. I count 8 different colors that this puppy was painted. Now I still need to find a hood. Thanks for looking. AlÂ
Porscheman Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Clean as the day it was molded. Still looking for a hood. Thanks for looking, Al
charlie8575 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Wow, that cleaned up nicely. I don't have a hood, Al, but if I hear of anything up here, I'll try to grab it for you.Charlie Larkin
vintagercr Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 It cleaned up nicely and I look forward to watching the progress.
ChrisBcritter Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 That must be a major relief to find it so clean - that much paint could have hidden who knows what. I have several parts sellers I watch - will keep my eyes out for a hood.
ProStreetOnTheStrip Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Theres on e of these right down the street, might buy it soon, theres you a hood! lolÂ
Helper Monkey Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Its nice that the paint stripped right off despite the age and the amount of paint on it.
superbike-shaun Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Hey,,,I remember painting that one,why are you complaining? That's some of my Best work! !! (LoL)as usual, I know u will MAKE this a thing of beauty! Superbike-shaun
Ron Hamilton Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 PM Me Al. I may be able to help you with this one.
Porscheman Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 Thanks to Ron Hamilton, I now have a hood. This was like getting an early Christmas present. Thanks for following Al
Crusader101 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 This is going to be nice.....looking forward to your progress.
Ron Hamilton Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Looking at your build made me revisit the '66's. The hardtop is in better shape than the convertible. I have 2 S/C Ramblers which will provide the missing parts for the hardtop, and the rest will go to a Missing Link Hornet SC360, as they state that the S/C Rambler is the appropriate donor kit. I still like the rounded fender cars better, and I have to find my '65, which is in worse shape than yours. I also turned it into a convertible, as the glue melt in the roof was too much to overcome.
slusher Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Thanks to Ron Hamilton, I now have a hood. This was like getting an early Christmas present. Thanks for following Al Great people on this forum. Now you can get to work Al...
Porscheman Posted October 24, 2015 Author Posted October 24, 2015 I primed it and painted it this morning. No clear coat yet.
LouO Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 What a world of difference! Bet it weighs half as much now too LOL!
