I bought a parts kit Blazer at a swap meet and there was a bunch of extra parts in the box, after sorting it all out I had found pretty much a complete Kyote dune buggy. The big and littles , the mags and the red colored VW engine are from my parts box, the rest was in the Blazer box. So while waiting on parts for my '' El Shorty '' project I soaked all the Kyote parts in Super Clean and started to restore this buggy . Was this ever reissued ?DSC05605

Fabulous! I LOVE rescue projects. They're the most rewarding kind.

Got a color in mind? I've found a paint that's great for dune buggies and the like.

I've discovered--at Michael's--a Krylon "Sparkle" paint that looks like a great "bass boat" metalflake, and it's doing well on spoon tests--applies easy and dries VERY shiny. I don't think they have a yellow in that line, but I've bought red, blue, green, and I've seen a purple. I'm gonna do a Manx in on of them, and the TeeVee in another. I've got a glue bomb EMPI Imp very much like your project that would be a natural for the blue.

Slight repair on widow frame, got it in primer and found a couple of areas that need slight body work where items were glued on. Made some new shafts for the bigger rear tires , the original shafts made the tires stick out to far and I do not have original tires and mags. Rear tires from Barris ''T'' buggy.DSC05625

Nice save.

The wheels from the Mini-T are the best part of the kit.

I had a few of them and robbed anything good from them, I have 1 complete ''T'' Buggy left . May try to modify and build it. Got the windshield frame done and angled back.DSC05642

I was going to cut the floor out and try to drop it on a Revell dune buggy floor pan, I have a Gypsy I tried to modify to look less goofy.

I think the stuff I was talking about is called Sparkle. I've seen the Glitter Blast but thought it was TOO glittery for a model car. But it might be just the ticket for a fiberglass dune buggy. Hey, if it works for you, fabulous! But DO shoot some on a spoon and see if the glitter roughens the finish up. The Sparkle dries to a very nice gloss, I can tell you (though I confess I haven't actually used it on a car body yet, only spoons).

I just doublechecked. It's called Krylon Craft Series Shimmer Metallic. There's a purple in that line too, I'm pretty sure--maybe even a pink, I don't remember. It looks like it would make a good "heavy metalflake" on a model. The Glitter stuff just looked TOO glittery. But hey, that's just me. It might be just what you had in mind.

The Shimmer Green is a close match in color to 1972 Chevy/Pontiac Spring/Julep green, but sadly it's too flaky for a factory paint job. Too bad, as it would have looked great on a '72 GTO project I have in mind. I might paint the thing with it anyway.

Your right Richard the paint I bought lays down rough, more purple glitter than paint on the spoon then got dull. I'll check on the Krylon craft series. Thanks again.

I wanted to get this one done so I shot it in 4 coats of ''Purple-Licious'' lacquer, and 2 coats of clear gloss. Must be really careful when I go to polish it out , I only had enough to paint it once. May get it done by Monday.DSC05643

I smoothed the dash out to use photo-etch gauges, and could not separate the rear lights from the housing without causing damage, so I'll have to paint the lensesDSC05649

This has light metal flake, Im still getting the paint ''Snake45'' mentioned in blue for the one thats close to being ready for paint.

Had to change headlights , I missing [1] clear cover the other was glued up.Changed exhaust style s also as I did not have the original, this was the best I could come up with, seems to work fine enough. Need to purchase clear plastic and make a windshield, forgot I was out of clear. Get the interior done, install skid plate, steering wheel [using parts box steering wheel] P/E gauges, fan belts and engine top cover , tail lights , whip with small flag and any do-dads I find to get it doneDSC05671

Looking good, I use thin plastic packaging from the clear Yogurt carton tops, shirts, clear plastic chocolate boxes etc for screens, easy to cut to any shape with scissors.
