This is going to be a very long and drawn out build, as I don't have the time to build that I wish I had!

Anyway, go easy on me.

A little background on me; I've been a VW/Porsche/Audi nut since elementry school, and spent almost 15 years working for Porsche, so you'll see a number of Porsche kits coming from me.

I finally got around to starting a kit that I've had sitting around for years. This is Tamiya's Porsche 996 Carrera kit. Curbside, no engine detail.

I decided to build this in Speed Yellow with the black interior, a somewhat uncommon colour combo around here.

I've started by spraying the interior pieces in black. This is an automotive semi-gloss black, can confirm brand later.

Then I masked, laid down the white glue, and flocked it. Turned out pretty good I think. I've since touched up the spot on the passenger door.

Not too exciting yet, more pics to come as I get working on this.

For those who like this kind of thing, here's the box art.

I have the colour laid down on the body. Sanded the mold lines on the front fenders and the rear bumper corners. Hit it with Tamiya white primer and Tamiya yellow spray. I've always had really good results from Tamiya sprays, so once the trim is painted and everything is wetsanded and polished, it should look pretty good.

Got a little more done on this one over the past week or two.

As you sometimes find with $9 EBay specials, not everything arrives perfect. This kit is complete, but see if you can spot the broken piece in the rear suspension.

As this one isn't going to be mega-detailed, I'm not too concerned.

I painted everything with a couple of shades of aluminum and/or steel, plus a couple of shades of flat or semi'gloss black, tried my hand at some drybrushing on the suspension pieces. Somewhat convincing, but as my focus is on the paint and the interior, I probably won't spent too much more time on the chassis. A little detailing, but that's about it.

Also got some work done on the interior. Not sure what the white flecks are in the pics, as they're not there on the kit. Anyway...

Seatbelts installed. Had to take some creative license with the front belts, as there are no B pillars on the kit, so making seatbelts work and getting everything lined up to a point where I'm happy would have been a challenge. So instead, I made the belts kind of like the cabriolet version, where they basically just attached right behind the front doors. Close enough for me. The clasps are from some styrene scraps and I used some artist pencil for some of the silver dash buttons. Just need to print off an image to affix to the nav screen.

The decals are a challenge. Not sure if they're just old (probably) or if they're defective, but they do not stick well at all. Still, looks okay to me.

Very nice to see!  You build a Porsche, and you'll definitely get my attention!!    Great job so far!  The way I do gauge decals eliminates the possible danger of using old decals. I use self adhesive clear acitate and stick it over top of the gauges, carefully burnish it down, and cut it out with SHARP scissors (Fiskars). if the gauge bezels are deep, just glue it in with white glue. if the bezels are shallow, dunk it in water -acitate and all, slide the backing off, and glue in place with white glue.  this method works great for me. If you wanna see just how good it looks, check out any of my builds, I do them all this way.
