MrObsessive Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 WOW!! LOVE the Valiant conversion! Excellent Job!! If I might make a suggestion on the body--------the upper corners of the rear window and roof could be a bit more rounded off. You may have already taken notice of that as you mentioned that things aren't quite done yet. I gotta say this is a VERY ambitious conversion as that's not an easy car to replicate. And yes, I hear ya on trying to get things symmetrical! It's not always about measuring this and that--------a lot of it can be trial and error. Keep up the excellent work!

You may have already taken notice of that as you mentioned that things aren't quite done yet. The rear window will be completely redone later. I´m still thinking about how to do it. I´m actually not looking forward to re-do this but....well... I think when everything else on the body is done I have a good motivation to do it. It is indeed a very ambitious conversion. I thought it would be easier before I started. But I actually enjoy the challenge and I think the effort will be worth it in the end. I´ve just found a pic from an earlier stage of the build. This was before the roof height had been corrected. In the picture you see the roof height of Revell´s Dart body. I have also red-marked the position of the Dart´s original c-pillars. Just to give you an idea on how the pillars were modified. The roof was cut off of the body shortly after this picture was done. Edited December 13, 2015 by Stuntman Mike
cowboy rich Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 That is looking awesome! I really like it!Rich
Stuntman Mike Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 I realized there is too much attention on the Valiant to keep it here in the Trcuk´s section. I made a separate WIP in the model car´s workbench so this truck WIP won´t get spammed with car related stuff. Duel ValiantA little update on the Peterbilt will follow in a few hours.Cheers Kevin
AussieTrekkie Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I am in the process of building the Duel truck too. Here's a couple pics of mine so far. Scott.
Stuntman Mike Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Great job on your truck and trailer, Scott. I wish I was that far with my build I´ve stripped the chrome off of some parts and assembled the engine. This is where I run into the unknown. Is there any wiring and plumbing that should be done before painting the engine? Is diesel injected into the blower on these engines? I know it´s a two stroke, so there are probably no fuel lines to each cylinder. Is that correct? Pretty hard to find the reference I am looking for. Mainly because I don´t know what to look for. And what about that air compressor thing behind the blower? Is that for the brake system and looking forward to get connected to the air tanks? In case someone likes to share a link to a WIP that includes a superdetailed 8V71, I´d be a happy bloke Cheers
AussieTrekkie Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 The air compressor behind the blower will have airlines coming out of it to the air tanks.I did a google search for "8v71 Detroit" click on images and there are hundreds of photos of the engine showing where all the wiring, and other vacuum lines and all the othe lines go.https://www.google.com.au/search?q=8v71+detroit&biw=1366&bih=614&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwil-ej1l_HJAhWlF6YKHZ7fAUkQ_AUIBigBHere's a link.Glad you like what I have done with mine so far.Scott.
guitarsam326 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Please someone correct me if i am wrong, but there are no fuel lines to each injector, fuel is fed to the injectors via passages in the head, there would be two fuel lines coming out of the fuel filter, one to each head. Everything looks great so far, this is one of my favorite movies and definitely my favorite peterbilt, i have plans to build a few myself!

Fuel lines go to the fuel manifold and then to the injectors. Refer to picture. Hope this helps. Scott.

I havent had the pleasure of working on an old detroit yet.
Force Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 (edited) Nice work!I have found out this regarding the Duel truck, 4 trucks were used ,the #1 main truck was a 1956 repowered with a Cat 1674, thus the yellow horisontal air cleaner, and a Fuller 10-speed, the surviving movie truck wich was the #2 truck had a Cummins 262 hp engine with a 5-speed Spicer main transmission and 3-speed "Brownie" auxiliary transmission, both were 281 single drive with tag axle and Page & Page 60/40 suspension.#3 was a 1964 351 and used very sparingly in some extended scenes, #4 was a mid 60's 351 made up to look like the Duel truck but was not exactly in the movie but was used in an Incredible Hulk episode where some Duel movie shots were used and the "#4" truck was used for new scenes in the Hulk episode. If you don't want to do an absolutely correct replica of the movie truck this doesn't matter much tho'. Edited December 24, 2015 by Force
leafsprings Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) Because the movie used 2 different style trucks( #1 and #2 were older cabs with tag axles and lock ring wheels) and #3 ( newer cab with dual drive and solid wheels), we have more options. The easier build would be truck #3 with the '61 thru '72 unilite "California Hauler" cab. ( used only during the rail road crossing pushing scene and bus pushing scene).
