I was wanting to construct a decent engine stand so that when I am working on one it stays in one place and I don't keep having to hold it where I want it.  So I was wondering if some of you would share some ideas and pictures of an home made engine stand.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike, I've used some 2 component putty on motor builds.  When the short block was done I'd just dip it in pile of putty, when hardened trim it into shape.  Worked very well.

I bought this little spring loaded dohickey through Micro Mark. Works great on near any engine.

Is that a clamp?  Looks like the weight would be of help.  Which ever way I go on the stand, I think weight is a key factor.  Helps keep the engine still while working on it.  Thanks.

Nice stand Bruce.  What kit is the Ford DFV from?

I've been eyeing this for years and now you've convinced me to get it. I never imagined it as an engine stand  ... good use!

That's a nice looking piece.

I don't mean to knock the scratch built stands, but they don't look like a motor could be built on one.  I'm wondering if they're sturdy enough if you had to pry something off that's already been mounted, or having to press a distributor pin onto the block, something along these lines?  That's why I like my ugly old slab of putty.  I drilled holes in the block and heads with the block sitting in it.

Just saying.

Please let us know what you end up doing.  Interesting topic.
