....I have found over the years that sometimes 5 minute epoxy can be a good friend, giving time for adjustments at that crucial moment. that bow legged look is remedied easily by using epoxy, and yes, several of these RR and GTX builds seem to suffer from it. regardless, your build finished is one I am excited to see, its very nice, and i'll be getting that kit now for sure. hope my RR turns out as well as your GTX here......the Ace.......;)

Yep, once I dry fit the body, I'll have a much better understanding of what's what. Speaking of epoxy, that's how I intend to glue the wheels on. I desperately want to avoid the "bow legged" look that I've seen so frequently.

And with the interior bits that needed it, now being given the semi-gloss treatment. I don't know about anyone else, but I think this looks 100% better.

Posture is OK (will need some "help" to sit high enough, but the wheels (as you suggested, Ace), sit way too far inside the wells. This is certainly not acceptable, so I'll need to jury rig some wheel extensions.

also, Kevin....in working on my RR I noticed that the clutch/ brake pedals are too far forward, and almost touch the floor.....easy fix, snip them off , shorten the pedal shafts a bit, then re glue to your liking....just a thought....the Ace...:D

I'll be sure to check it, Ace. Before I get to that point though, I need to trim the door panels to fit, as they certainly don't now. Thanks to you, Joe and Mark, I appreciate the support.

Well, Ace, you nailed it again; brake and clutch pedals do drag on the floor, so I chopped them off and shortened them. If I ever do another one of these (probably a convertible GTX or Roadrunner), I'm going to try to add emergency brake pedal, turn signal lever, high beam dimmer switch on floor, courtesy lights, speakers and some other stuff, to dress it up a bit more.

Also, for some reason, my steering wheel has no column to speak of, despite being shown in the instructions, so I'll need to add some plastic tubing for that.

Kevin, I have altered my pedal set up too, and in just now reading about the fit of your interior panels,,,I had to file-to-fit them to get a square alignment , as box stock they are ill fitting to say the least. also, you may find the dash sits  high on one side as well, and may need some adjustment too. oh, you mentioned you have a steering wheel problem,,,well you are welcome to mine from my RR build here, as it is the wood grain sport wheel with the proper look and size,,,if you need it I can send it out to you, as I am making the runner with the base taxi cab plastic wheel.....let me know if you need it, glad to help......the Ace...........;)

Kevin, check the sprues carefully, things like that sterring column can hide pretty well sometimes.

Gene

Actually, instructions quite clearly show a column as being molded integral to the wheel, but there is no column present.

Thanks, Ace, but I'm beginning to grow really weary of working on this one, so I'll just wrap it up, warts and all. Since so many other things are incorrect for a proper '69, having a correct steering wheel is not that big of a deal to me right now.

no  problem,,,but if it gets you out of a jam and makes life easier, i'll gladly mail it out to you......best, the Ace............;)

And I appreciate the thought very much, Ace. When I begin my '71 GTX, I may need some parts there, not real sure though. I'm not real wild about the hood that the kit has, but there seems t be no other option there for the '71.

well, maybe there is an answer to that as well.....I notice that a resin maker on ebay that offers the base hood with 440 markings, and as I recall both the 71 -72 shared this hood. the catch is, if it will fit in what I assume is the mono/revel  kit you will be building.....if its a tad small on the outer edges, a bit of plastic strip will shim that up....I just did the same to my 68 runner that I'm building , and its the hood that comes in the kit...lol.......don't ya just love this hobby////:D......the Ace...........just checked ebay,,,item no. to check is-151991422754......now he lists this resin hood as an mpc 71 gtx replacement, but I think with a bit of massaging, this hood may be the ticket...... may drop in, or as mentioned, a bit of plastic edge strip may do it......the Ace...........

I've already decided to go with the kit provided hood on the '71, as the air grabber hood is still pretty cool. Also, if I went with the style I was thinking of, I'd also want to source the hood/fender stripes, and I don't know of any being available. It's possible that they appeared in other iterations of this kit, but I have no idea about that at this time.

Perhaps a bit premature, but I went ahead and painted the hood stripes today. I used tire black (flat) mixed with clear semi-gloss, but probably should have used more semi-gloss. Any way, I certainly won't be repainting it, so this is the way it'll stay.

I like it as it is ! Well done . What is the red you used?

Thanks a bunch. The paint is Testors Root Beer Metallic lacquer, from a spray bomb. (I've yet to try painting a model car by airbrush.)
