Dann Tier
Second wet coat just applied. There had been numerous sanding marks still evident (poor prep work on my part I guess), but this coat seems to have straightened that out. This is looking sweet! what primer/color primer did you use?
Roadrunner
It was Duplicolor sandable white primer. I really didn't notice anything out of the ordinary until after I applied color, then every tiny scratch and flaw became immediately visible. Seems to be OK now though.Oh, and thanks very much for the compliment. I think it has the potential to turn out real nice. Roadrunner
Thanks, Tony. It certainly does look "root beerish" in color.

Roadrunner
Thanks, fellas. In a few days I'll grab a bottle of gloss black lacquer and then be able to finish for clear coats.
Roadrunner
OK, I was finally able to get the black lacquer to enable me to paint the lower portion of car. I took a chance and spray bombed it, and much to my surprise, the Testors can gave me no problems whatsoever, going on as smooth as silk. Not much of an update perhaps, but at least a little progress. Still some more touch-ups to do to the Root Beer, then I’m ready for clear coats. Roadrunner
With the Root Beer now touched up, the first of the clear coats has been sprayed. I feel this may well be one of my best paint jobs to date. I’m very pleased.

Roadrunner
Now that clear coats have cured, polishing has commenced. Roof polished, but hood and trunk are not. Still lots more to do. Edited January 27, 2016 by Roadrunner Photo spacing issues.

Roadrunner
Thanks, Joe. This one (like all of my others so far), is giving me some trouble, but I'm fighting back.
Roadrunner
I feel that the end of the wet sanding/polishing is drawing near, so I’ll now be moving on to the interior. I was able to gather some stock interior color information from the web, so I’ll be going black and wood grain, with some chrome trim. Should look OK, I think. Roadrunner
The acrylic base coat for the wood has at least now been sprayed on. I'm shooting for a sort of walnut/mahogany color to the wood, as that's what I seem to see in photos.
Roadrunner
The more I dig into this kit, the more I like it; two complete engines, and some real nice looking hood hinges, as opposed to the normal lumps I've seen. The engines are a bit odd though, separate heads (typical), but with plain blobs to represent the rocker arms. Both blocks have cylinder openings, but no pistons as such, just recesses. I can't begin to imagine why they molded them that way. Anyway, with this being curbside (like most of my efforts), I'll just throw the engines and associated parts into the spares box. Roadrunner
Thanks, Gene. Well, some oils have been spread on to (hopefully) simulate the dark wood grain on the interior. Should look lots better when all the black is painted.
Speedfreak
Kevin, how are you gonna clean the oil from places you don't want it?
Roadrunner
Kevin, how are you gonna clean the oil from places you don't want it?No need, really. I'll just airbrush the black straight over it. (The tube oil is actually much thinner than it may appear.)
Roadrunner
Frame mostly assembled now, just a few more pieces to add, then I can shoot paint. I'm actually beginning to look forward to finishing this project so that I can start my Halloween car.

Roadrunner
OK, engine bay assembled (at least as far as I intend to take it). With no engine, it seems rather pointless to do much here.
Roadrunner
Rear end now installed. I realized once I saw this photo , that I've forgotten to add the rear shocks, so I'll go do that in a little while. I want to have the exhaust tips showing, so I've put in the muffler/tailpipe assemblies, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.
