W-409 Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Well this year started out very good as I finished this Oldsmobile already in January. It's built as a Mild Custom from Revell Stock '50 Olds kit with some minor modifications. I'm still pretty happy how it turned out. Then... Oh yeah, that Oldsmobile was my only completed model in 2015! I really have to do better next year. Though one of the reasons why I didn't finish more stuff is that I restored this '60 Impala in winter/spring 2015: ...And then I rebuilt my new Daily Driver, a Chevy S10 in the autumn. Maybe these two projects slowed me down a bit with these models... Still I should have finished at least two, but it's too late now. To be honest I'm pretty happy with the Olds, and that's what counts I believe as I prefer looking at few decent quality models on my shelf rather than a big bunch of glue bombs. Now I need to get back on the bench though to actually build something...
DumpyDan Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Very nice, I was just gonna get into that 60 Chevy and drive away
Speedfreak Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Love the Olds Niko, and your 1:1 rides are looking good too!
peekay Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 The Olds looks fabulous, so does the Impala! All the best for 2016 Niko.
Burnout Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Nice work on the Olds, Niko. I'd be happy with that also.Your Impala is sweet! It's got just the right '60-ish super-stock look to it.
bbowser Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Nice work on the Olds, Niko. I'd be happy with that also.Your Impala is sweet! It's got just the right '60-ish super-stock look to it. X2!
Ron Hamilton Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Very Nice!!! I want to see a model of the '60.
W-409 Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Thanks for the kind words guys! I wish I could have completed more models this year, but sometimes there's just too much other stuff to get anything done... Hopefully next year I can finish a bit more though.Ron - Actually I started building a replica of that '60 Impala, but while I was trying to get the real deal back on the road, the model got stalled. I haven't touched it in a while, but maybe it will start coming together again some time soon.
Mister Twister Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 That Olds is a beauty Niko and you definitely need to get back on the replica of the Impala. Great job as usual!
Kit Basher Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 That Olds is great. Fantastic engine detail!
DeeCee Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Very nice Old's mate, i know what it is like when 1:1 eats into model time, but once it is done, modeling seems very easy...
W-409 Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 Thanks for the kind words! Darryl: I'd like to see that 1/25 scale version of the Impala done too. I think I have to get back to it soon... Dale: I enjoy working with 1:1 cars too, but you're right, these models are a lot easier while I have lots of less stuff to worry about. And these are a lot cheaper, too!
traditional Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Wow Niko, I absolutely love your '60 hard-top. It looks just like the 348 powered Chevies that I used to see at the drags when I was just a young kid first attending the races back in the day. I'd ride my bicycle miles to sneak into the drag races ( I'm sure the officials knew my brother and I had sneaked in, but they didn't bother us).....It was the first time I'd ever seen the W motors, and watching them race made me a Chevy fan for life. Congratulations, everything about your restoration looks just right! Merry Xmas and a happy 2016 to you and your family.Cliff
W-409 Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 Thanks Cliff! I've always liked how those old Junior Stock cars looked so it was clear that I had to create a bit similar look to the Impala. So far it only has Matching Numbers 283 and PowerGlide, but hopefully it will have a W-Engine and Four Speed trans some time when I have the money for those. That might take a while though as those are not cheap and now I got another project that will take a lot of time and money too ('62 Chevy II 4 door to 2 door Sedan conversion). It's a lot of fun to cruise around the way it is now though. Basically the engine and trans work always perfectly and I can drive long trips with it when I feel like it. And if needed, I can fit easily six guys inside and go cruisin' all windows open! Merry X-Mas and Happy New Year to you and your family, too! Thanks.
Bernard Kron Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 With your interest and activity throughout the year I hadn't realized the Olds was your only completion. However, it is stellar in its detail and execution so if there had to be only one then at least it was to a very high level! Of course I think we all would agree that the Impala would go a mighty long way as compensation...All the best for a fulfilling and happy 2016, Niko.
W-409 Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 Thanks so much Bernard! Yep it feels kind of odd that I got only one done, but at least it should be pretty easy to do better next year. And Cruising around in the Impala was a lot of fun and from April to October every single Friday Night I was at a Cruising Night somewhere and pretty much every Saturday too. And if there wasn't a car event on Monday through Thursday or on Sunday, I was probably just driving around either myself or with a couple of friends. That combined with work...No wonder I got pretty little modeling time during the summer months. But I have to say that I still should have got at least a second build done. With everything coming up in 2016 I can't promise much but I hope I could get at least two done. Happy 2016 to you too, Bernard!
