Mopar - D Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 This is a Fonters resin Dodge Bighorn and the Diamon RIO for the donor. My plans are to build like 1 of the 2 that Chrysler built before pulling out of the class 8 rigs back in the mid 70's. The Shortnose never made it production. I'm going with a 134" wheel base and a blue and black paint. Here's what I'm starting with.
Arnd Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 nice subject. the littel one looks very special for me. I think that would have been a grate truck if they had produced it. where do you have the cab from? how i the quality? so longArnd
kilrathy10 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Oh, that's going to be a nice project.....You've got a knack for this stuff, Man...Can't wait to see what you do with this one.....
Mopar - D Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Anrd Fronter has them on eBay for $55 plus shipping. The quality seams pretty good so far for a resin. I plan to cut the hood so it will open up. The details are better than there regular Bighorn that they sell. Thanks JT.
disabled modeler Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Very cool Dan....I really dig the Dodge cabover in the background...
Mopar - D Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Thanks Mark I just bought another one of those Dodge COE with plans to make it a single axle tractor.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Very cool Dan....I really dig the Dodge cabover in the background... X2
SergeB Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Hi, Dan!Excellent model!I had to collect it. There were a lot of difficulties. But that's what happened.http://trucksinscale.com/galereya/dodge-big-hornSergei.
Mopar - D Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Sergey, thanks and thanks for sharing your Bighorn.
SergeB Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Success in this work!It will be very interesting to see the finished truck. What color is going to paint it?
gatorincebu Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Looks like a interesting project. It is kinda a shame that Dodge opted out of the class8 truck market. Be Well Gator
Mopar - D Posted December 28, 2015 Author Posted December 28, 2015 Sergey I'm going with a blue cab and black frame.
gino Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 nice ! can't wait to see how this one turns out !
SergeB Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Den!A good option! We are pleased to have a look at the track ready in these colors.
Mopar - D Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Started some work on the frame and going through my parts boxes for some fuel tanks. I couldn't find a Detroit diesel so I picked up the AMT Pete at HL today with some Christmas money. I've cut the frame and have a mock up of how short the wheel base is going to be. It measures out to scale 140". I'm going by a couple old pictures.
Superpeterbilt Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Nice work so far. Ive considered buying one of these cabs myself, but havent had any ideas for it yet.
Old Buckaroo Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 This project has my attention also and will be fun to watch. I really like your first picture showing your shelf of models - The Mopar load is so cool ! Terry - You mean there is suppose to be an idea behind a project ? hmmmm
Mopar - D Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Here's a picture of what I'm basing my build to.
SergeB Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 What will solve the problem of the cab front window?
Mopar - D Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Sergei I'm going to use some thin clear plastic like on my other Bighorn here.
Mopar - D Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Shorten the frame to 145" and test fitting.
Jim B Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Looking nice, Dan. Is there really that much gap between the tire & the fender?
Mopar - D Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Thanks James, I think your right it looks like the panels under the doors are to tall. If I trim them down it will make the gap your referring to smaller. I'm using this site for my reference http://www.olddodges.com they are restoring one of the 2 that were built back in 75.
