gasser59 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) I just can't seem to finish a project without starting another. It's in the early stages and I'm starting with the ZZ Top body and had planned on using the frame but my previously owned kit is without one. I'll have to figure out what to do and may just make one. Here's a picture of the one that inspired me although I'm not building a replica of this. I do like the faded red color with all of the chrome and black. Here's the early start. Front wheels and tires are still uncertain and it will definitely have an early hemi. Edited August 22, 2017 by gasser59
gasser59 Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 Thanks Dumpy. I got another kit from a friend and it looks like the only thing I can use the frame for is a pattern to make a new one. It has the muffler, exhaust pipe and battery molded in. A fabbed one will look better anyway.
geemoney Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 when you cant see the valve covers because the cowl is covering them, that's a hot rod!!!!!!
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I love this style of race-car. The altereds were always among my favorites to watch. Great project, good start.
vintagercr Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Looks like a cool project, will be watchingMe too!

Mooneyzs Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Brad... Now this is going to be one Killer Build. You have my Attention that's for sure
OldNYJim Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Looking forward to seeing a scratchbuilt frame for this come together!
6bblbird Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Great project! When you're done I have a match race waiting for you!
10thumbs Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 This is a great theme Brad, thought about this one myself. I have a resin chopped 32 Ford stowed away. I've had a look at this setup before, I think even the frame from the one you're finishing up will fit without much work. Just an idea.
gasser59 Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) The ZZ Top frame is kind of a mess with lots of sink marks and the molded in battery box and muffler with exhaust pipe. Be quite a bit of work to make it acceptable so I would rather make a new one. I think it'll be stronger too. Edited January 9, 2016 by gasser59
10thumbs Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Brad, I meant the frame from the Altered T you have on your bench. That one would probably fit.
gasser59 Posted January 10, 2016 Author Posted January 10, 2016 No way that fits Michael. The chassis is way too short. You know I sure had to go check.
gasser59 Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Worked a bit on the new frame rails. Making them from Evergreen stock. No pics though.
