crazyrichard Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 stunning , maybe ,, if you get the front out of the bed (behind the rear window you can spread the sides out a bot and make them run against the sides and have no gaps behind the "cab" .. if that makes sense ?? .. then make a new front or widen the one thats in between the sides now ...
Jantrix Posted January 24, 2016 Author Posted January 24, 2016 I added some material. Lots of careful sanding sanding and test fitting ahead.
misterNNL Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Saving the factory rear fenders was absolutely the right choice. That decision helps retains what I call the "product identity"from Oldsmobile.good luck with this project and thanks for sharing.
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Cool concept & great workmanship.
mod3l Lover Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) That is going to be a very cool ute! David S. Edited March 11, 2016 by mod3l Lover
Jantrix Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 Thanks guys. I've got 90% of the body work done. The bed fits well and the rear panel doesn't look out of place. I'll get some up to date shots tonight. I'm heading out of state on vacation for the next 10 days so it'll be waiting for me upon my return. I've nothing else on my bench so it'll be getting more attention. On a side note, I've made no descisions on the paint. I was leaning towards flat black frankly. So I'd be interested in any ideas anyone has.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I'd say mint green. Faded paint with "sun-bleached" patina, no structural rust. Your model, though!
Jantrix Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) I'm still at the body work. I've decided to really do this right and make it shine. I'm planning at this time to do a gloss paint job but likely a dark color that will really make the chrome pop. The rear bumper is going to be a real challenge. Edited March 13, 2016 by Jantrix
DeeCee Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 That is making great progress mate, very nice shape to it.
espo Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I have been enjoying your build. You mentioned that you were unsure about a rear bumper. Would the stock bumper work with little or no modification since you want to go shiny ? You may have to remove or modify the bumper guards as they would interfere with the tailgate. Or some type of diamond plate bumper, but that may clash with the look you are going for.
Jantrix Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 If you look closely to where the fender cut outs are in the rear fender, you'll see that I have added about four scale inches to the overall length of the car/truck/whatever. My hopes are to alter the fender in some way to utilize the fender cut outs and stay true to the Olds design. However until the bed is permanently glued into the body, I cannot really start making those measurements. No updates for a while. Heading out on vacation. I'll get back to it in about 10 days.
Poppa mitch Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 What a cool project, can't wait to see more pictures after vacation.
wayne swayze Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 This idea is very cool! Great workmanship also! This will look killer when you finish. Enjoy your vacation!
