Whats up everyone, decided to join to ask questions and possibly answer some.  Been into model building since i was about 10 years old, about to turn 30 soon :( Havent built any models for about 15 years however.  About 5 years ago I was off work due to an injury and around the same time a friend of mine bought me kind of a gag gift because he knew I liked novas (got me the revell 69 nova kit).  So since I was off work I figured what the hell, might as well build the kit he got me.  Of course I decided to NOT build it box stock since I hardly ever did back when I was into modeling, so needless to say I got stuck on a few things and never finished.  But with all of the model car facebook pages the spark has kinda been re-ignited.  And man the amount of aftermarket parts available now is insane to just a mere 10 years ago.  I've been wanting to finish that nova that I started, and have been getting ideas on different parts to modify it with after searching all of the resin parts manufacturers.  Also I have always wanted to build a replica of my dad's 62 corvette but hated the AMT kit that's been around for years, however I just found out Revell released a new kit for the 62 which has much better proportions and detail.  When it comes to building model cars for me, I obsess over the "stance" of the car and how realistic the wheel and tire package makes it look, and since my dad's car wears big and little weld draglites, that was always a road block for me since there were no kits that offered them besides one or two funny car kits..and the rears are simply too wide.  The only other option was the resin draglites which of course aren't chrome..plus I don't have an air brush to use Alclad chrome which to me doesn't really resemble chrome very well for wheels.  But I just went and bought the 57 chevy funny car kit on ebay today which I plan to steal the wheels from and try my hand at narrowing the rears to closer resemble the wheels on my dad's car.  So I might just get back into the game and buy that revell 62 corvette kit and get to work on it.  Since I know we all love pics I'll post a few of the models I built back when i was a "kid".  All of these kits were built around 2000-2001 when I was around 15 years old, most of the parts you see were kit bashed and the rest were sourced from the model car garage, dencon resin (formerly known as lookout model car products) or detail master.  I also threw in a few pictures of my dad's car which I'd like to try to replicate.

Welcome to the forum Kevin as this is a great place to be. Your models look great and I hope that you'll bring them to the Milwaukee NNL on April 9th.

Hey thanks!  I have literally never been to a model car meet, I would like to check one out some time though.  Most of my models need some love though lol, those are all old pictures from 15 years ago, sadly they don't all look as good as they did when I built them, glue has dried out and alot of little parts need to be glued back on...not to mention dusty

Hey whats up there Jesse, I was wondering if I'd see you on here haha..oh yes, I'm aware how addicting it is, I remember as a kid sitting in the basement at my parents house for 6 hours at a time messing with model cars staying up till 3am sometimes lol.

found some pictures of the Revell 69 Nova that I started working on a few years ago..this is about how far I made it lol..

Couldn't decide on whether I wanted to give bare metal foil a shot or not..I had always hand painted the trim when I was younger.  Also started to move the leaf springs in to fit bigger tires in the wheelwells and scratch built some longer traction bars to hit the spring eye.  I really wanted to use some different wheels, and I couldn't stand the knock off centerline convo pro style wheels that came with the kit, so I grabbed some of those weld prostar wheels from the 57 corvette street machine kit, IMO they are the most realistic size and offset wheel that any kit has to offer, but I'm just so tired of using them lol, i think i have 3 or 4 models with them on there already.

Welcome, Kevin! nice builds!  What color and brand of paint is on the Nova?

Thanks!  I have all of my modeling stuff in my parents basement, don't recall off hand what the name of the color was but i THINK it was a model masters ruby red or something of the sort,  I painted it over a flat black base and cleared it.  But all done with spray paint, no air brush.
