landman Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 I read in Hollywood's dio thread that he made rags with tissues wetted with thinned white glue. What does one thin white glue with and what is the recipe?
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 (edited) Thin white glue with water. Just about any recipe will work. All you need is for it to dry somewhat stiff...kinda like dried snot on a Kleenex. Edited February 7, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
landman Posted February 8, 2016 Author Posted February 8, 2016 Tried it. Seems to work. they aren't quite dry yet.
astroracer Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 If you mix a bit of red food coloring into the glue you can make the "rags" red. Use different mixes, NON of these rags are the same shade. Blue is also a popular color, I have both in my collection. Mark
Jantrix Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I've used the same trick with paper towels to create, el cheapo seat covers in a beater, and on 3" shotgun cleaning swatches too.
High octane Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 We had a demo on using tissues with white glue/water mix last Friday night at our club meeting on making tonneau/bed covers on pickup beds. I didn't watch the demo as I was busy gabbin' with other members. This method could be used to make tarps over engines, cars, etc. as well.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 ... This method could be used to make tarps over engines, cars, etc. as well.I've seen lotsa armor and sci-fi models use it for exactly that.
landman Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 First attempt. the "oil" is quite shiny. I may tone it down.
gtx6970 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Sure looks a lot like the rags laying on my shop bench at the moment,,,grease stains and all ( I had to build a Mopar transmission for a customer of mine this week ) Edit,I saw a picture some time ago where the builder used this method to make a green tarp over a car. Using a paper towel with a green tinted glue /water mix. It looked EXACTLY like a tarp , texture and all . Edited February 11, 2016 by gtx6970
