gtx6970 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Ok, I did some digging this morning looking for Mopar cross-ram intake manifolds . And found these. I am pretty sure the 2 on the right are AMT . one on the left,,,NO idea the 4 in the middle I think are Johan or are they ? ,,,but there are 2 different styles ??????? I've looked thru all my Mopar Johan kits and NONE have a cross-ram in them,,,which has me thinking Was there ever a cross-ram intake in a Johan Mopar kit ? The more I think about it,,,I don't think there was Edited February 18, 2016 by gtx6970
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Top left is from the Johan "Color Me Gone" kit.None of the ones you show come from the AMT '49 Merc. The manifold in the Merc kit has the carb bodies cast in. Edited February 18, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Jantrix Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Based on this photo of a VERY early model of mine (no laughing now, it was my first wiring job ) the top center parts are likely MPC. I'll take a better look tonoght to verify. Edited February 18, 2016 by Jantrix
Jon Haigwood Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) The one in the middle, second row looks like the one I found in the AMT 69 Barracuda as an extra Second one (right) in the third row is in my AMT Roadrunner kit. Edited February 18, 2016 by Jon Haigwood
gtx6970 Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 MPC parts is a good possibility. I have a bunch of the MPC 68/69 Barracudas around here in various stages of completion. Will ck an unbuilt one later today to ck .
Jon Haigwood Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 This is the one from the 49 Merc AMT kit
Jantrix Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 After checking my models, I can say with some confidence that the top center are NOT from the MPC Charger. But the right two parts I think are AMT. Sorry to be zero help here.
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 The 2 in the center row on the bottom are Johan pieces. I just checked the '65, '66 & '67 Fury kits that I have, & they all include that manifold. Might be some pretty rare pieces you have there! Steve
gtx6970 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Odd they would put a crossram in the kit the manifold was never avail in the 1/1 world ,,yet NOT put one in the cars they were avail in. But as an update. I dug thru my MPC 69 Barracuda box and found another intake like the 2 on top in the middle. Yet my sealed kit is a 383 and no crossram of any kind.
Jon Haigwood Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I have been trying to do some research on Cross Rams. I first thought that the one I found in the 69 AMT Barracuda kit (with the extra bumps) (never figured out what the bumps were for, all the pictures shows them plugged??) were the type used on the Hemi. and the smooth ones found in the AMT Roadrunner and GTX kits were used on the Max Wedge engines After looking at a bunch of photos I discovered they were used a lot on either engine. I found other variations that seem to be aftermarket versions and nothing at all that looks like the one in the 49 Merc kit. If anybody has more info or a web site with more information I would very much like to hear it.
gtx6970 Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 They are screw in access plugs,,,,,, plugs were access points to get to the bolts that attach the intake on the engine. Hemi goes straight in from the top. Wedge motor goes in at at angle . ALL OEM intakes were one piece as shown ,,,, any two piece intakes were either modified( a popular thing to do back then ) or aftermarket Also, intakes 1964 and prior were aluminum. regardless of application1965 and 1968 Intakes were Magnesium ( 1965 and later is HEMI only as there was no Wedge crossram produced ) Also, on a wedge motor. If your using an original Max wedge intake you MUST use the max wedge heads as well . A standard wedge intake port is to small
62rebel Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Bill, that's a neat thing to know about the access plugs. I'm no MoPar expert and less on Hemi's, I wouldn't have caught that otherwise. Thanks!
