Eric Macleod Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 This is a very old Monogram kit. I'm going to build it (gasp) bone stock.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Looking forward to seeing this. It's the best proportioned of all the '34 Ford kits out there, and stock is so unusual, it should be a really striking model.
Speedfreak Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Very cool Eric, the cabriolet looks really good.
1930fordpickup Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 (edited) Looking forward to this. Is your kit complete? Edited February 20, 2016 by 1930fordpickup
Eric Macleod Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 I hop it it complete, though I have almost none of the custom stuff. We'll see!
10thumbs Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 I'm pleased to read about a stock build. What plans do you have for the paint finish and/or color?
Tom Geiger Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Stock! That's an interesting concept on this board! I had gotten into '32s like a lot of people. Actually way too many people! A while back I decided I liked the '33-'34 lines better. I fell in love with a '34 4 door sedan with the suicide rear doors. I'd rather have that than a coupe.
Roadrunner Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Wow, oldie moldy. This should be interesting.
CometMan Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Yes Eric, you are correct! The shovel shaped grille as well as the independent headlights and the flair of the fenders make the '33-34s some of the best looking cars of the era. Good luck with yours, it would be really cool if they would reissue one of them with a stock build option!
Eric Macleod Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 I agree that a stock reissue would be most welcome. I am planning to do this mostly out of the box with only minimal engine wiring and plumbing and mayhap adding brake rods. For the Cabriolet I am thinking Coach maroon with black fenders red wheels, saddle colored leather and tan top. This is lots of color but era correct. Personally I prefer blackwall tires but may go with double whites if that is confirmed by my research photos. Thanks for all your eencouragement folks. This will be a fun project.
ChrisBcritter Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Good luck with it! I have a vintage builtup that was done nicely so I may leave well enough alone. Is your kit molded in dark maroon?
Eric Macleod Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 Yss all of mine are dark maroon plastic. It does seem to be a very nicely proportioned model. I especially like the wheels which seem greatly superior to the AMT wheels.

Lincoln offered them in '34, they are a totally different class of car than a Ford, but in those days I think a customer could get what ever he was willing to pay for on his car!
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 White-walls in general are entirely period-correct looking, and whatever was available in a tire that would fit a rim that could be physically bolted to the car would be "correct". Somewhere, I have a pre-war shot of a '34 Ford that's had Duesenberg wheels fitted.

Ace-Garageguy Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I think Eric was referring to factory, or dealer installed, correct Ace. I didn't assume that, as he said "era correct" when referring to his choice of colors, rather than OEM correct. Assumptions can be tricky.
Eric Macleod Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 The maroon Cabriolet in lower right hand corner is what I have in mind. I was thinking about brown with black fenders and straw wheels alternately.
Speedfreak Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Tamiya makes a 'Maroon' TS-11 that is almost brown, it's like a deep 'reddish' brown. Nice color scheme for this Eric.
Eric Macleod Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 I have started to apply some primer and engines are coming together.
bobthehobbyguy Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Nice start. The maroon is a great color choice.
