I'm looking for a paint shade (pewter) that would be positioned right between silver and Tamiya Light Gunmetal. I'd be more than happy to use lacquers, enamels or acrylics, but I do need to nail the shade, i.e. no trending toward brownish, as some shades do (see some pics of Pepper Gray metallic). This color is meant strictly as paint for a car body, not as a Metalizer substitute, and I'd prefer a non-metallic paint (they're out there - I've seen them in the 1:1 car world).  Pics of cars painted in the recommended shade and paint part numbers would be greatly appreciated.

Bonus question: Do the Tamiya silver lacquers have any translucency that might allow me to change the hue via the use of a darker primer?

Not quite sure what you mean by something between silver and light gunmetal but not metallic -- isn't that just grey?

But anyway, Zero Paints does a Graphite Grey, which may be close to what you are after:

These are some wheels painted with it:

And Steve is right, if water based acrylics will do, Citadel have a wide range from Runefang Silver to Leadbelcher -- Ironbreaker might suit you.

I'm not 100% sure exactly what color you're looking for, but I painted this '59 Bonneville in a '57 Ford color called "Gunmetal Gray". Still too dark?

The paint is MCW.

It is a metallic paint, but it's a very fine flake.

Almost un-noticable.

They have another '57 Ford color called "Woodsmoke Gray" as well.

To me it looks like primer.

MCW probably has a hundred different shades of gray, but you'll have to do some homework to see what they look like.

Here's the exact shade I'm looking for.  Unfortunately this is just a Google image, so I don't know anything about the car or what paint was used.

That color shouldn't be too hard to find.

Looks like a pretty basic metallic medium gray.

& the color in the photo is definitely a metallic color.

Here's one that I happen to have on hand that looks pretty close to me.

Duplicolor "Perfect Match" #BGM0478 "Medium Marblehead Metallic".

If the Tamiya TS-42 is still to dark Tamiya offers X-32 Titanium silver. You would need to clear it afterwards as it is a semi gloss finish.
