DrDevil72 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I've been through a divorce, having cancer and having the ring and middle finger of my right hand broken (the cast was removed last week) and this site and the wonderful folks here have made a huge bright spot in my life. My son and a pal from my old workplace sent me to this site (after much cajoling and beers) and now I am addicted. Today my son called me from Germany (he's on his way to Afghanistan) and asked me if I managed to downsize my stash of kits... Only to find out while I did manage to get rid of a bunch of kits, I've managed to trade for a bunch of kits with parts missing and glue bombs, and he laughed so hard I could hear the echo through the airport over the phone. Let me get down to brass tacks, all of you fine people have made a really hard spot of my life much more bearable and I feel like I've possibly made some friends for life. Perfect example is MoonshineAndChrome, the man is a dictionary of old school hot rodding and modelling. We talked on the phone for nearly two hours (and I am NOT a phone person at ALL! ) only to find out we're nearly related! So if you ever get the chance give ole Dennis a call, he'll have you laughing like you were a kid. Another fine example of cool folks are the following: AFX, GARDNERPAG44, ROTORBOLT73, IAMSUPERDAN, MOONSHINEANDCHROME, AND A FEW OTHERS I HAVEN'T MENTIONED.And to the creators of this site, kudos and a six pack to you all, as for your fine periodical... I'm going to subscribe tomorrow instead of picking up copies from Barnes & Nobles. PS if you ever feel like life is getting to you, remember there are boys overseas fighting in terrible places just to save humanity from tyranny. Please send support to our boys and gals no matter your view on the war. God bless!

iamsuperdan Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Well there's a nice pick-me-up this morning. Glad I could help lift your spirits in some way. On a related note, your package is being couriered out of here today. Hope your son gets home safe and soon.
DrKerry Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Welcome aboard Michael. I put a comment on your other thread for Roth kits. I've been through a divorce and it's not an easy thing to do, add to that the battle against cancer and it'd be enough to bring anyone down but I get a sense from what I read by you that you are a positive person!!!!!!! Lord knows we need more folks like you in this world!!!! God Bless you and your son for doing what you are both battling!!!!! Wishing you a future of cancer free living and you son as well as all in the armed services and safe and happy ride home!!!!!!!!! Also don't forget to thank a Vet!!!!!!
louie Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Oh I know the feeling of being very down and out as I have and still am dealing with some stuff, but I also know that getting back up on your feet ( so to speak ) is not that easy either. I know where you are coming from my Friend and you and your son are in my thoughts and prayers. I really appreciated your post as it gave me strength. Thank you. Jeff
redneckrigger Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Michael, it sure does sound like you have found a home here, as have I. This hobby is a tremendous stress reliever and a way to connect with others of like mind. Cancer affects us all, in one way or another. We all either know someone who has it, lost someone who did, or have it ourselves. 11 years ago, I got the news I had it, one month after losing my Dad to it. The last 11 years have found me even more involved in this wonderful hobby living a day at a time.Thank your son for his service.............the job that he and his fellow service men and women do allow us to pursue our pastimes with freedom. Take care, you are a SURVIVOR!!!!! Cheers, Tom
