CFMgarage Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) A little backstory: I'm a rotary-freak and I've always wanted to build a widebody rx-7 with a badass engine. Since my whole diorama is a "rotary-garage" I had to do this. The widebody comes from another rx-7 that I just cut up and then sanded, fitted, sanded, fitted, etc etc... I didn't take many pics, but I am working on the exterior: Edited May 3, 2016 by CFMgarage
CFMgarage Posted March 12, 2016 Author Posted March 12, 2016 The fender flares are all on there, and I laid down a coat or two of black primer and did a short test fit of the wheels I'm going to use. The suspension is not on there, so the ride height is all over the place.
CFMgarage Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 I went ahead and buttoned up all the suspension. No pics because I suck and can't stop once I'm "wrenching" but basically I cut the springs, and use styrene to build spacers to lower the car, and then cut the control arms at the attachment points and adjust their angle to fit the new height. I made a custom exhaust, I'll play with it more to thin the walls. Also added a wing from my rocketbunny FRS as I preferred that car wingless...next up: interior
CFMgarage Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Oh...I'm watching! Sweet! Thanks very much. New school builds don't get too much following on here but I still Like posting them
Belugawrx Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Like the wing Gergoare you going to putty those flares in, or leave 'em ?Cheers
CFMgarage Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Like the wing Gergoare you going to putty those flares in, or leave 'em ?CheersNooo. The new school stuff is leaving them raw. It adds to the whole "drifter" style, in where the dudes leave them raw, in case they smack into one another it's an easy replacement. I may drill some holes on them and add some scale rivets or bolts. Haven't decided yet
Dann Tier Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Another sweet build underway!! reminds me of a Veilside car
afx Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Thanks very much. New school builds don't get too much following on here but I still Like posting them Don't build for the herd, build what you like and it will get noticed.
CFMgarage Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Don't build for the herd, build what you like and it will get noticed. Exactly I build stuff that I like to have in my diorama
CFMgarage Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Another sweet build underway!! reminds me of a Veilside car Thanks. Hope it turns out as good as my imagination is designing it...this was the slight inspiration for it: Its "mad Mike" whidett's badass 4-rotor rx7
CFMgarage Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Pretty cool! Thanks hope it turns out as good in the end as it started.
CFMgarage Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 I bet that's got one nasty exhaust note... I didn't have the privilege to see this one live but I saw his 26b (4-rotor) twin turbo (1200whp) Mazda mx-5 last year and just seeing/hearing that thing made me pee my pants a little
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Very cool!!..I like the direction you took.thanks so much!
CFMgarage Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Not much to update today as i spent most of my days rebuilding my garage & parking lot diorama...BUT I did get a tracking number for my engine (from Hong Kong ugh). Here's a picture for you guys from the website. I'll take some good pics to see if I can replicate it later from styrene for future builds. (I'll try to put in some work during the week but we'll see how busy it gets) Here's the 26b 4-rotor with IRTB's:
CFMgarage Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 A little progress done today as I got sick so I stayed home. I was couch-bumming most of the day but I managed to mount the seat, harness, and work more on the cage. It's not done yet but definitely getting there.
CFMgarage Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Finally gonna post an update. I work slow, since I had a procrastination moment for a while, and now I'm messing with multiple projects. Anyway, engine came:
CFMgarage Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Started throwing paint at the engine, thinking about how to arrange the engine bay...added the throttle bodies and the pulleys/etc. Interior was getting almost buttoned up:
CFMgarage Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Here you can see all the windows are in, testing the hood fitment (you can see in the background I've changed up my diorama a lot)... Next up will be engine detail, and you can see I removed all the rollcage as I'm going to start a new one (hated the fitment).
