This is my first attempt at some real detail to an engine and I picked a Ferrari V12 to do it! I need a little help with what diameter braided hose i should use for the pic below, Pro tech makes them in .018, .025 and .035 diameter, I think its the .035 but want to be sure and not waste the money. The second part is where do i start with those spark plug boots, build from scratch? or does somebody make them. I may be in over my head, but i love this engine and want to give it a try, any help is appreciated.

Can you look up the actual braided hose you are looking to replicate? It's much easier to scale it from actual dimensions.  My cursory search didn't turn up much, but there is another one that is detailed like that on this board.

As for plug boots, I make mine from 1/16 or 3/32 heat shrink tube. I have a pieces of piano wire in various diameters to match plugs, pull the heat shrink over the wire, apply heat, and draw out until you have a pretty good length of hollow tubing. Then cut off little pieces to make the boots. One 4 inch piece of shrink tube will give you dozens of boots. They come in packs of 8 at big box hardware stores for a couple of bucks.

I see what your saying Allen, good points, I'll try to find the diameter, thanks for the tips on the boots

Very FIRST thing we need to know is what scale are you working in?

Those braided hoses on that particular engine are roughly 1" OD (one inch outside diameter).

For 1/25 scale, that would be 1/25 of one inch...right?  The decimal equivalent of 1/25 of one inch is 1 INCH DIVIDED BY 25.

That equals .040"...so you're right, you would use the .035" braided line because it's the closest to .040".

My son seems to like taking laptop computers apart and he saves me the wiring bits. There is a antenna wire that after you strip the outer insulation off leaves you with  .043 braided wire.

Modern Ferraris use a plug boot similar to this:

The kits should have these embossed on the heads and the plug wire runs to th

The kit does not have them embossed on, only the mounting plate is there,

Not sure where to start trying to scratch build those boots, but I know its possible because i found this pic on another post in here

Thank you very much, I am working in 1/25th scale so you were very helpful.

Well kit looks like you're showing an FXX.  If the Tamiya kit, there should be parts E2 and E3 that attach to the head.  You could drill each "plug head" and wire to them.

wow, i really look like a rookie now, thanks..lol, I completely missed that part, back on track

Glad to help.  Stuff like that happens.  As well as the part eating carpet or the black hole in the hobby room that sucks in a part needed for completion!
