Danbury's '49 Oldsmobile duo.........the coupe and 'woodie wagon'.  I believe that 1949 was the last year for the GM wagons to be available with real wood trim.

Danbury's introduction of the '49 coupe predated Revel's plastic kit of the same car by a few years.

Danbury Mint's well detailed '41 Chevrolet deluxe wagon.  Interesting that they eschewed the whitewalls for this model.....probably a lot more typical without the whitewalls in the day, even though the restored versions at car shows now-a-days would almost always have whitewalls.

Let's see if I can remember all the working features...

Operating convertible top.

Opening rumble seat.

Wheels steer through the steering wheel.

Driving lights steer along with the front wheels.

Headlights work, dash gauges illuminate, brake light works when brake pedal is pressed, hi-beams can be tuned on and off.

Courtesy lights come on when a door is opened.

Cowl vent operates.

Hood vents operate.

Operable golf club door with a set of period-correct golf clubs.

Running board toolbox opens, tools included.

Moveable "wind wings."

Moveable wipers.

Did I forget anything?

Golf balls?

For those who may not know...

Our model car community had a lot of impact on the Danbury program.  Rick Hanmore and Doug Whyte both worked there.  And Danbury Mint sponsored our NNL East raffles for many years.

One of my favorites and the only one I have a few photos.   I had a Ron Cash resin Divco body and Bordens decals from a Heller kit.  I was going to scratch build the rest... then I saw this and realized I could never do better for $135!

I always liked Danbury cars, and was happiest with some of their famous Customs like George Barris's Hirohata Merc.

Cheers,

Two of my all-time favorite hot rods, and Danbury knocked them both out of the park!  I particularly like the working tool box panels in the doors of the Dream Truck

Another of Danbury's famous custom series:  the 1958 Watson styled '58 Thunderbird.   This car was one of the instigators of the 'panel painting' craze in the late '50s

To this day, I'm amazed that Danbury was able to print the silver panel painting so seamlessly.  Even the fine pink pinstriping between the silver and the candy purple is flawless.

Tomorrow I'm going to the local toy/train "collector" show. Last three times a guy has been there selling Franklin and Danbury Mints for $25 each. I've picked up a few of interest to me.

At that price, obviously, no box or documentation, and some of them might be missing detachable parts or accessories, but they all seem to be otherwise in excellent to perfect condition. (The story is, they came from the estate of a guy who had them all on display in cases in his den.)

Dunno if he'll be there tomorrow or not, but last time I saw him he still had two or three dozen cars of all kinds.

Anyone here looking for anything in particular at that price (keeping in mind that shipping it to you will run another, what $10-ish at today's rates)?  Don't tell me "EVERYTHING!" or give me a long list, but if you have one or two or three special wants, let me know and I'll look for them and even ask.

Will be going about 9 tomorrow morning (Sunday, April 3) so don't post wants later than that.

Recently I was at an antique shop. I stumbled across a DM ford model t pickup. It was in mint condition for $15! I had vintage auto ads I was buying but now I regret not getting it. It was a beautiful model.

franklin mint VW

Here's a Danbury VW Beetle that I rescued from Good Will.   Looks like someone gave it to a kid as a toy. It's missing both bumpers and the passenger side door handle.  But for $3 we buy it no questions asked!

You still keep the clear protective film on the side scripts on it?

Not usually Harry, maybe I missed that one as I take off all the film, packing, etc. before putting my "Mints" in my display case. Good eye Harry, good eye.

I've got a few Danbury Mint items in my stash...and a few Franklin Mint ones also.

One thing I'm curious about--did any of the Mints ever do a '46-47 Ford Super Deluxe Sportsman woodie convertible?  I haven't seen a resin kit of one..  I found out last week that an uncle used to own one...interesting cars, been reading up on them.

Yes they did do a '48 Sportsman

Are you sure that's a DM and not a Franklin Mint? I didn't know DM ever made that one.

Yea, just looked and it's a Franklin Mint.  Probably an early one with the lack of detail such as the dog leg door hinges and body color vent window surround.  It will become something of a model one of these days.

Went to the show as promised and picked up a nice '78 Vette Silver Anniversary for 25 frogs. Forgot to look to see if it's DM or FM, but it removes all desire or temptation to build the Monogram kit.
