Snake45 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Going to the local toy show tomorrow. The last two months, a guy has had two JoHan promos on his table. First one is the Turbine Car in Turbine Bronze; the other is a '67 (I think--might be a '68) molded in green (IIRC) with a decal or sticker or printing on the door celebrating the Plymouth Troubleshooting contest. I think the guy was asking $65 or $75 for each one. Are those fair prices for these? If so, is anyone here interested in either, as I'm not particularly. They're both in really nice shape but not mint or perfect 10s.

Mark Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Probably decent prices if you wanted them for yourself (might be able to bargain down to $100 for the pair?) but there's probably not too much room there if you want to do a quick flip. Promo values tend to take a steep drop if they aren't absolutely perfect.A less-than-perfect Plymouth might be worth that (or pretty close) to someone wanting to rebuild one (kits are virtually unobtainable). The only problem is that the promos used interiors altered from earlier kits, with everything molded in.
Can-Con Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Also keep in mind that the Turbine car was also sold by X-El in the '80s so it may not be an original.
gtx6970 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) There was a time a turbine car would bring that , even then it had to be dead mint perfect ,then only if its an original and with the original box , make sure the hood ornament is in place. The later issues had plastic pins ( looks like a nail head ) holding the chassis in . Originals were a metal straight slot screw .I have an original and I gave $85 for it, with the box and the original sales brochure . But I've had mine for close to 10 years ,,maybe more As far as the Plymouth, need more info. But Its probably a 1968 Fury , they are/were usually white . I cant say I've ever seen or heard of a trouble shooting version in green ? Might a sticker transplant from another car? maybe ??????Either way its no longer a big money piece. Promo prices have taken a hit over the past few years. Edited April 2, 2016 by gtx6970
om617 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 67 and 68 promos go for $100 and more on feebay. If this a certain "edition" it could be worth more then the usual ones.
gtx6970 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 The days they'll consistently pull over $100 is over. A kit will most every time. But the dealer promos rarely do1968 Fury search of sold carshttp://www.ebay.com/sch/Models-Kits-/1188/i.html?LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo=&_sabdhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=41005&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_nkw=1968+Plymouth+fury&_pgn=2&_skc=50&rt=nc 1967 Plymouth Fury , again sold carshttp://www.ebay.com/sch/Models-Kits-/1188/i.html?LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=41005&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=1967+Plymouth+fury
om617 Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 The cheapest i found sold was over $50 and had a huge crack running thru the fender and hoood. The next cheapest was $85. So i still stand by around $100 and more for mint ones.
Snake45 Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Thanks for all the info and advice, fellas! Good stuff! I think I'll let them both pass (assuming they're still available) till they find someone who really wants them.
Harry P. Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Did you click on the link I posted? Turbine car for $50 BIN or best offer. In the original box.
Snake45 Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 Did you click on the link I posted? Turbine car for $50 BIN or best offer. In the original box.Yes I did. Pretty much decided THAT one for me.
Harry Joy Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) Model Roundup has had the turbine car for a little while, at $69.90, and the 1964 issue at $99. Edited April 3, 2016 by Harry Joy
crowe-t Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Is it not considered a good thing to use a dealer promo as a kit? To re-paint or add details.
Snake45 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 Is it not considered a good thing to use a dealer promo as a kit? To re-paint or add details. Not if one is in really nice shape. If it's got scratches, broken or missing parts, chrome all worn away, etc., a significant portion of its "collector value" is gone and as far as I'm concerned is a prime candidate for working over as a model. But there will of course be other opinions.
