GTJUNIOR Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Not very difficult, but a little surprised by what it actually is. Not what I originally thought.
dw1603 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Not very difficult, but a little surprised by what it actually is. Not what I originally thought. Yeah, me too.
Badluck 13 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 .....Wow I must have lost my touch with everyone above said it wasn't hard to find,I finally found it after I was about to just give up on this one and long dead end searches ......never the less I still enjoyed the search ...Thanks again Ken for a tough one (for me) and keeping the game alive...

GTJUNIOR Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I originally thought it was a Mazda1300 and did a search for 1970's Mazda 1300.
otherunicorn Posted April 8, 2016 Author Posted April 8, 2016 I originally thought it was a Mazda1300 and did a search for 1970's Mazda 1300. It would be made from the exact same tooling.
Matt Bacon Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) Those wing mirrors said "Japan", but it's the wrong-hand drive, so I started Googling "Korean cars 70s" and then Kia and Daewoo Cars 70s...Though I had a brief digression at first when I thought it was a foreign clone of a Hillman Hunter, which is what it looked like to me at first glance!bestest,M. sjordan2 Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) I also Googled '70s Kia, but nothing came up that looked like this car. Edited April 8, 2016 by sjordan2
Matt Bacon Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I found some rather obscure blog (in English.. maybe a design blog) which had some images of pages from a Korean language brochure or catalog, which had a picture of the very thing and a very few scattered words of English in the text which helped...bestest,M.
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) From the shape, I assumed it was a late '60s-early '70s Mazda, but none of the Mazdas that came up on searches were exactly the same (though the body shells of the Familia appeared to be very similar).Thinking "aha!" it might have been the basis for one of the Japanese-derived early Korean cars, searching through '70s Kia images (one year at a time, as in "1974 Kia") brought one up quickly. dw1603 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Pretty much what Bill said, but I didn't go straight for Kia. I thought that Kia were a recycler of Mitsubishi technology and they are, but only since Hyundai rescued them from bankruptcy. Previously , they had a fruitful relationship with Fiat, Peugeot, Ford and Mazda. Once again, Auto ID research has expanded my meagre knowledge base. If it goes on long enough, I will eventually be a genius.
otherunicorn Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 From the shape, I assumed it was a late '60s-early '70s Mazda, but none of the Mazdas that came up on searches were exactly the same (though the body shells of the Familia appeared to be very similar).Mazda dropped that model around 1973. Kia start in 1974. I think it is a safe assumption that the mazda tooling was sent to Korea, so the body shells are in fact identical.
