Modelbuilder Mark Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I have a couple set of parts box finds, that I do not know the kit source. The first set have a 60s hot rod/racer look, but the directional aspect kind of throws me. I am not sure if these are a complete set, or a two sets of the same "side" or direction. For the wire wheels, are they custom, or "make" specific, like Pontiac? Again, kit source would be interesting.
afx Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) Top set are Halibrands from the Accurate Miniature Corvette Grand Sport. Bottom set, I think are Kelsey Hayes and I am not sure what kit(s) they are included in. Edited April 25, 2016 by afx
Daddyfink Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The wire wheels look like the ones out of the AMT 289 Cobra
Fabrux Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The Cobra wheels have holes in the center caps for the quick-release spinners; these wheels appear to have a center cap/no hole.
keyser Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) Those are Kelsey-Hayes Stripper mags. Not wires, just look like them. Built 1969-72 15x6, COPO on Yenkos. Rare. 66 Mercury has them, I have a set from another kit too I can't recall. Edited April 25, 2016 by keyser
Can-Con Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 The '66 Mercury, '53 Vette and the AMT "Xtasy" and "KISS" custom Chevy vans have Strippers. A buddy of mine had a set on his '72 Vette when he got it.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 Thanks so much for the info everyone! I really liked the Kelsey-Hayes as wire wheels but can see some other uses now. As for the Halibrands, great looking wheels, just wish they were directional per side. It always seems like one side is backwards.
