Harry P. Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Did you use the airbrush alclad? Have you tried Spaz-Stix spray? I get really good results with it, and no bothering with an airbrush...
Greg Myers Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Just an observation, did it cause all that flash, or didn't you trim the pieces before you clad ?
High octane Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I seem to get good results using Spaz-Stix in a spray can whether I'm spraying plastic or resin parts. Your headers came out nice.
landman Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Did you use the airbrush alclad? Have you tried Spaz-Stix spray? I get really good results with it, and no bothering with an airbrush... We can't seem to be able to get Spaz-Stix in Canada. None of the major hobby stores sell it, at least not the ones I deal with. I wonder whether we can import it. I know we can't import the OEM model paints.
landman Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Just an observation, did it cause all that flash, or didn't you trim the pieces before you clad ?It didn't cause the flash. I thought I had it all but the shine sure brings it out doesn't it?
Harry P. Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 We can't seem to be able to get Spaz-Stix in Canada. Can you buy it online? That's how I got it. The results are just spectacular. The photo I posted doesn't do it justice.
MrObsessive Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Harry, did you just spray the Spaz-Stix on directly to the plastic? I tried it once out of the spray can on something and it came out terrible! The current WIP I'm doing, it would be perfect for the wheels on the BMW since they're stripped of the chrome............if only I could get it to play nice!
Harry P. Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Harry, did you just spray the Spaz-Stix on directly to the plastic? No. Like Alclad, you need a gloss black base coat. Here's another example of Spaz-Stix. All the chrome on this model is Spaz-Stix. The chrome trees were messed up, the finish was more of a satin look than shiny chrome, so I stripped the trees and used Spaz-Stix... And I "chromed" the wheels on this one with Spaz-Stix...
MrObsessive Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Wow! Those look really good Harry! I didn't spray the parts with a gloss black undercoat, so that's probably where my difficulties were. I'll try that out on some spoons and see what happens, although I do like the control of an airbrush......spray cans and I never got along too well. How is the durability once you put it on? I know Alclad doesn't like to be handled but so much. Not the way it used to be, but they've changed the formula over the years.
Harry P. Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Bill, I can't vouch for Spaz-Stix' durability. I try not to handle a part too much once I apply the stuff, but from my experience it's pretty sturdy and not too fragile.
Harry P. Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Not to beat this topic to death, but another example of Spaz-Stix... grille shell and wheels...
Cato Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Not to beat this topic to death, but another example of Spaz-Stix... grille shell and wheels... Now YOU'RE having PB photo problems. Dave said there were several update-related bugs here on MCM and would look into them. I do see your first post of the Bentley but no subsequent pics.

Dann Tier Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Did you use the airbrush alclad? Have you tried Spaz-Stix spray? I get really good results with it, and no bothering with an airbrush... I switched from Alclad t Spaz stix as well, as Harry said, NO airbrush hassle, and it is easier to use, along with being tougher while handeling the parts!!
1972coronet Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I've had the best luck with Krylon or Duplicolor aerosol 'chrome' . It can be sprayed over any-colour basecoat (flat or gloss) and the results are the exact same ! It's also very durable ; not fragile like Alclad (which just seems like a colossal pain in the ____ to apply , from beginning to end . And , of course , having to handle it like a Faberge Egg doesn't help its cause in my opinion).

Seems like it is used for Lexan RC bodies, so maybe a hobby shop that specializes in RC would have it.
landman Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 Thanks Rob. I had tried Wheels & Wings and the Hobby House. If those two don't have it , it doesn't look good. But I never thought of checking Great Hobbies.

JTalmage Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I can't seem to get that wicked shine that Harry gets, but I get close. My chrome turns out to be more of a polished aluminum with a hint of a brushed aluminum look. Harry, do you polish the black before applying your spaz stix? Or is your trick in rubbing the spaz stix at all? When I spray my Spaz Stix it is way too dull.. then I handle it and it shines up, but will rub thru easily.
dustym Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Can you decant this type of paint? I would rather use an airbrush. I get a heavy hand when I spray right of the can.Tim
