Jim B Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Can't say as I've ever seen a chrome P-61. It's probably not very good for sneaking up on people at night, but it sure is interesting.
philo426 Posted April 27, 2016 Author Posted April 27, 2016 I am going for the factory fresh pre paint shop look!
GTJUNIOR Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Looks good, but correct me if I'm wrong, shouldn't it be polished aluminium?
TomZ Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Looks good, but correct me if I'm wrong, shouldn't it be polished aluminium?I would think it should be dull aluminum, since it will be painted black on every surface.Gonna look neat all shiny, though.
philo426 Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 I like it suprbrite.I went to an airshow once and I saw a polished B-25 that you could see your face in.Most impresive!
Lizard Racing Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 There is an outfit in New England that is rebuilding a crashed P-61 found in New Guinea. Haven't searched for an update lately.I must get started on my P-61. It is one of the more interesting aircraft in an era of interesting aircraft.
Snake45 Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I am going for the factory fresh pre paint shop look! Some WWII airplanes got a good deal of their paint right on the line. But I google-imaged and found a couple pics of more than half-finished P-61s on the production line, all nice and chrome-shiny, so why not?

It is one of the more interesting aircraft in an era of interesting aircraft.I think that's the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, out of maybe Harrisburg PA. The google search I mentioned above turned up several recent pics of that airplane, and it's currently in NMF too. It's basically up on its gear now, but still missing the outer wing panels. They're making fabulous progress on that thing!
philo426 Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 Cool!Reminds if the plane that Howard Hughes crashed in the Aviator.
bisc63 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 Looks like the post-war version; re-designated the F-15 Reporter. There were streamlining changes to the cockpit, but they were left in bare metal finish. Nice looking build!
Mike C Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Nice. That's a lot of AlClad compared to what we use on a car model.
philo426 Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Yes it comes in a rather large bottle and you do not use much to achieve the chrome effect. The directions warn not to use too muc as it will dull the finish.
Jim B Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Looking nice, Phillip. You might want to put some flat black on the top of the nose in front of the cockpit, or the pilot won't be able to see a thing with the glare!
mustang1989 Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 I've never seen NMF on a Widow before.............but I like it.
phil-east Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 i know absolutely nothing about planes but i know i like the look of that one ! great work.
Mike999 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Nice work! You've given me some ideas about using Alclad. Somebody mentioned the Howard Hughes recon plane. That was the XF-11. ANIGRAND makes a 1/72 resin kit of it. Link to their site below. Now who wants to build that one in a diorama with 2 wrecked houses in Beverly Hills? http://www.anigrand.com/AA2041_XF-11.htm
