mangodart Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Hi guys, Back with a new built. This time the Revell 49 Mercury Woody wagon. Mostly box stock except I've replace the Cadillac V8 by a flathead coming from the 53 Ford combining some element of AMT 49 Merc ( like manual trans and air filter ). I've done some real wood for the interior panel as the one from the kit were too "flat" and no decals for them. So I've took some cigar box wood which is quite thin and put some wood coat on it. It's my first woody and was quite a challenge concerning the wood part. It's been painted fisrt with Tamiya TS46 "light sand", then the kit decals which were very good and to finish some coat of varnish wood. I'm quite happy of the result but I let you judge !!! Paint is a light grey, polished for a shiny effect. I was inspired by a 1/1 model I've found on internet, which was without WW tires so that's why I've choose to do so. I've made one mistake if wanted to be 100% stock, I let you see which one.... Hope you will like it !!
mangodart Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 And now some pics with an AMT 49 Merc I've built maybe more than 20 years ago now....
peekay Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Excellent work! The wood looks just right and the subdued grey with black-walls give it a great period look.
Intmd8r Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Looks good - don't see too many in stock form! You just confirmed it - I need to add this kit to my colloection
Phildaupho Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 Very nice indeed and I really like your photography.
stavanzer Posted June 6, 2016 Posted June 6, 2016 PeeKay, is correct. That wagon has just the look of cars in old photos. A nice car, clean but not fancy. Very Good Builds.
rmvw guy Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Nice Woody! I like the other Mercury also. These cars look good in stock form.
Sixties Sam Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Beautiful woody! I like the gray color. It seems right for the time period. Great work on the wood!Sam
Silver Foxx Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 A real nice build , looks great , well done . Built one of these myself , a great kit to build .
carrucha Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Nice pair of Mercs. The woody definitely looks better with the flathead. Good job.
mangodart Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 Thanks for the nice comments, I really wanted a period correct look for this one
