JerseeJerry55 Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Otherwise known as my stash currently numbers 5 cars. I have posted about all 5 in various parts of the forums. Now I have to ask this question. I will be adding number 6 soon so I would like the opinion which is the best late 1970's Trans Am, or Z28 kit? IMHO opinion my collection should have an example of one or more of the following cars: 55-57 Chevy, 1963-66 Corvette, Mopar Hemi mid 1960's, Chevelle SS, and the aforementioned T/A or Z28. As a yute back in the day I probably leaned more towards the 1974 to 1979 Z, but there's something about that Screaming Chicken that catches my eye. As always your thoughts, commentary, laughter, ridicule, and disdain are welcomed. Thanks for looking.Jerry
Roadrunner Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I can't answer your questions, but I can certainly comment on the cars in the stash. I have roughly 20 cars in the stash that I've acquired in the last 18 months, and I'm very seriously considering that if I can't get at least one of them finished to an acceptable standard by the end of the year, selling off all the remainder and just calling it a frivolous exercise in futility.

All in 172 scale.
bamadon Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Don't forget the 67 Corvette. It's probably the best of the second generation.
JerseeJerry55 Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 Plus my wife has made the fatal mistake of agreeing with me that when I turn 60 (that's just 60 months and 11 days away kids) that I can get a REAL muscle car. Banging my head about a late 1960's through 1970's car or a 2014 through 2017 Mustang, Camaro, or Challeger. The only absolute is that the car WILL NOT be a 1970 Superbird. As you all get to know me you will see that I will obsess about this and charge my mind about 3,752,098 times between then and now on what I really want. I just want to make the right decision. Sometimes you know I can be my worst enemy and I hate that.Jerry
Jantrix Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I have built the 1/24 Monogram '79 Z-28 BUT it was heavily modified and kitbashed. It is a simple kit. With T-Tops that don't fit all that well. The body looks great though. It can certainly be built as a very nice shelf model. You can see my WIP shots here if your are interested. http://s53.photobucket.com/user/Jantrix/library/Camaro pro-touring?sort=3&page=1

Thanks for looking.JerryJerry, you'll hate me for my take as the last Decent "REAL Muscle cars to me were Chevelle 396's and probably any B Block Mopar . Even then, by 1972 , it was all over . Build quaality was abysmal and even a brand new Ford Econoline I bought was so so .
CometMan Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Ellen is right, after 1972, between the mandated emissions equipment, and the oil embargo, the engines had been castrated so badly that the cid number was still there to look cool, but they had little to no power. (The 1975 Corvette had the EXACT SAME horsepower rating as my 4 cylinder Ford Fusion!!) Can everyone say "boat anchor? But, at least, the T/A still looked the part of a real muscle car!

Here's my thing. At almost 55 with a wife 2 kids and one of them going into his Junior year of college I have no money for one and have that itch. I should've had one of these cars back 35 years ago but was dirt poor living with my parents and working for about $3.00 an hour and going to night school. Fast forward 35 years and I have the itch. I go to a local spot on Friday nights and see everything I probably could've had. Nova's, Camaro's, Mustangs, Mopar's, GM A Bodies galore and I don't have one. At least not yet. So it's kill myself for 5 years and hope that I still can finance anything between a 67 and a 72 example. I have favorites but will not be picky as long as it runs nice and is in good shape I'll be happy. Or I look at a late model "muscle car" that I can definitely finance. Now I realize I'm not 20 again and I also realize that I'm not gonna pull up to a stop light, or take it the local strip and drop 10's or 11's. I'm just looking at more of doing what I see every Friday night. Roll her in, park her, pop the hood, sit in my folding chair and yak away for a few hours. Not too much to ask.
Fat Brian Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 To answer your model question the best late second gen F bodies are the various Monogram 78/79 Trans Ams and 80ish Camaro, they're good but simple and are similar in construction to your 70 Superbird. The best 55 and 56 Chevies are the recent Revell kits, the best 57 is the AMT Proshop kit from about twenty years ago. For Corvettes the old AMT kit is the only game in town for a 63 split window but Revell makes a superb 67 in a few variations. For your mid sixties Mopar cars Revell has a few excellent offerings, a 67 GTX, 67 Charger, a 68 Hemi Dart, and 68 and 69 Chargers while AMT has a 68 Roadrunner. Moebius has a great new 65 Satellite and while it doesn't have a Hemi I'm sure someone here could spare a few parts for you. There are also the very good Lindberg 64 Dodges in both Hemi and Max Wedge versions. For Chevelles you've got the Revell 65, Lindberg/AMT 66, Revell 67, and Monogram 70, all build into nice replicas.
slusher Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 I built the Revell 79 Camaro Z/28 and liked it. The AMT 71 Duster is a really great kit in the Mopar line...
