bobthehobbyguy Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Recently at my hobby shop and saw a Round 2 lLindberg kit with a sticker saying it was manufactured in the USA. Is round 2 doing any of their kits in the states. The box in question had a 2015 date on it.
Mark Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 If it's Lindberg and it's a 2015 manufacture kit, then it's Round 2. They're doing some stuff here, and some in China. Where probably depends on a number of factors: where the tool is now, how many they expect to sell, among other things.
1930fordpickup Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Someone posted the Lindberg stuff was made here in Michigan awhile back.
Brett Barrow Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Almost all Hawk/Lindberg stuff was being made in the US before Round 2 bought them. Just the J Lloyd-era new tooling (Dodge Chargers and the Dodge Monster Trucks come to mind, there might be a couple others) was made in China. Seems like the sale gave Round 2 access to have some of their other stuff made in the US, too. A couple MPC kits have been done at the same facility (1/100 Vostok and Titan IIIc rockets there might be some others by now) I don't think any AMT stuff has been made there yet.
Dave Van Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Each box has origin listed.....some kits come from multi countries.
Art Anderson Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 All those old Lindberg kits (save for the Mopars that Lindberg did back 20-some yrs ago, and still very good kis) were molded in a factory in Northern lower Michigan, when the brand was owned by Jody Keener--who ran the stuff into the ground.Round2's AMT etc. stuff is being molded in China nowadays.Art
Reegs Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) The AMT stuff is in China? There goes my fantasy about Round2 correcting the unfortunate tooling decisions that AMT made back in the '60s - you know: Hey kids! Parts to build a gasser! Just ignore the stock exhaust system and gas tank that we molded into the frame! And don't get me started about the annuals with that blob undercarriage (okay, originally they were promos, but AMT could have been smarter about it). Edited August 15, 2016 by Reegs

Roger, unfortunately, "tooling corrections" are not easily done, given that injection molding tooling such as for model kits is generally tool steel, case-hardened. In addition, most of the AMT (and MPC) tooling was created from information gotten several decades ago, probably no longer exists, and if it did, pretty much unusable in today's digital world of making model car kit tooling. Frankly, it would be less expensive to just do the particular subject all over again--but then would that new issue sell well enough to pay for it> Also, bear in mind, that as late as the 1970's, most all model car kits were being produced for a much younger audience--median age perhaps 12 or 13, quite different market that what exists today (all us 12yr olds somehow managed to survive to become grown-ups ) Art

That's why it's a fantasy. >sigh< Edited August 16, 2016 by Reegs
Edsel-Dan Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I wonder, (and Worry) what will happen to our hobbywhen China decides to do to Round2, Revell/Monogram, & Moebius what they did to Danbury Mint!!!!! I an surprised that they did not order ALL tooling sent back home then!!!(or did they not understand what happened??)
