Short history of this kit first. Frog were a very popular plastic kit producer in the UK in the 60/70s mainly concentrating on 1/72 aircraft models, but they also produced ships and some larger scale car kits. In around 1967/68 Frog collaborated with AMT for a series of 1/25 car kits, there were only around 4 or 5 produced and most of the time the decals differed from the US kits the box art was also unique.

This 68 Corvette is essentially an AMT 68 annual kit, the box on mine although very well worn, has beautiful artwork on it showing a Le Mans/Sebring Corvette.

Ive had this one in the stash for a long time and I thought it was about time to build one of my older kits. A lot of you already know the story behind the 1968 AMT Chevrolet kits, and that AMT didnt have the promo contract for that year, so they had to guess the look of the 68 cars without the factory backing. Let's just say the body on this Corvette has some pretty out of whack body proportions......but that didn't put me off trying to build a nice looking box stock model from the kit.

Im very happy with this one, everything you see came from the kit, it has the old basic moulded detail chassis, the engine represents a 327 V8 I believe but again has accuracy issues for the year. No wiring or plumbing, just completely box stock with a Holts green rattle can paint job. The chrome was redone with spazstix, the only part Im not happy with is the break at the top of the windshield frame .....I could not get that to look ok but hey ho....

I hope you like her, comments and critique welcome.

Oh and  no door mirrors the kit had them but they looked awful, and until I find some suitable replacements it hasn't got them.

Small world - I believe I sold that one to you.  Nice job.

Did you really ?, that is a coincedence !, probably a couple of years ago, I always seem to think Ive had kits for a lot longer than I actually have lol .

Thanks for the compliments

Very nice! If you displayed this model by itself (i.e., not next to a more accurately shaped AMT, MPC, or Revell Corvette), most people probably wouldn't even pick up on the inaccuracies. Well done!

Thanks Snake, I totally agree, the dark green colour seems to hide the shape somewhat, I did put it against a Revell 68 body on my Youtube vid  and its plain and obvious then. I rememeber you mentioning you picked up one of these shells in a junkyard of Corvette parts.

By the way I have the cut down screen, hardtop and all the extra bits (apart from wheels) spare if they are any use to you.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't really need any of that. I got a cut-down windscreen and the hard top off eBay, but didn't win on the hood, which I could REALLY use. Planning to modify the extra hood from a Revell '68 roadster kit. Gonna do it as a VW or Corvair-powered kit car. I'll make some kind of front end out of sheet styrene, and I'm gonna just put screen across the open rear panel. I have the complete AMT '68 kit interior, which is actually a little too nice for the "kit car" idea, but WTH, I have it and can't use it on anything else, so I'll use it. I hope to get back on that project sometime soon (am dreading that hood thing). Your kit didn't have any kind of optional second hood, did it?

Beautiful build! And those wheels are very, very cool!

I used to collect and build Frog model airplanes, and have several of their kits in AMT packaging. Love their stuff, all the way back to the "Penguins" and the original "Flies Right Off the Ground" (FROG) fighter!

They are realy nice wheels, I've never seen these in any other 60s era AMT kit. Thanks bud

That looks great Gary. Yea, those wheels look just right with the white stripe tires and green paint. Very "period perfect".

Thanks Steve, and thank you all for the kind comments

I have the frame to that kit. It's a shortened 1967 frame. Compared to the Impala, AMT's Corvette looks great.

I really loved this one. The color is great. The wire wheels also look quite nice.
