935k3 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) The kit is the Tamiya 911 Porsche 911 Turbo 88. This one has been painted awhile but just now starting it. Paint is Motip touchup paint F77-78 clear coated with Testors Wet look Clear. The wheels were satin chrome but I repainted them with Spaztix. This kit is partially snaploc assembly. I will fill all the holes and mount part an alternate way. No decision on interior colors yet. Te rear wing was cut loose for better paint access and to scribe trunk lines. Tamiya molded the entire car with rear deck and wing one piece. The front has a license plate housing that sticks out and is very unrealistic. This was removed and filled in with plastic so a normal separate plate can be used. Edited October 22, 2016 by 935k3
Scalper Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I like the way this is starting. Got my interest. Love the Porsches
Twokidsnosleep Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Beautiful paint colour, love this body style
o-man Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Beautiful paint colour, love this body style X2
Toast Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Looking good so far! Yes the masking of this kit is difficult but have patience and it'll turn out. Good thinking with the plate!
Toast Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I like your idea with the mirrors too. The way the kit works they do look a little cartoony.
Dann Tier Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Great start, and color!, you made all the changes that I would have done as well. a little more work, but easier to paint and assemble.
935k3 Posted September 29, 2016 Author Posted September 29, 2016 I have the chassis done the engine is molded in but It looks pretty good painted. The exhaust system was two separate parts. I have the basic colrs painted on the interior. I am going to do carpet with embossing powder(1st try).
OldNYJim Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 That's one stunning Porsche Dale! Beautiful colour and immaculately put together so far - good luck with that tricky masking! Looks amazing so far tho!
Toast Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Just a heads up, those tabs on the side of the chassis will need to be removed.
iamsuperdan Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Looking forward to seeing this one done. Love the colour choice. I find it interesting that Tamiya chose to produce the kit with an aftermarket seat. Porsches have never come from factory with power seat controls there. But the Recaros from the 80s sure did.
Hawk5.0 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Looks great so far. I love this kit by the way. I did one a while back in flat black. Looked pretty cool. The masking is a little tricky but taking the time will really make it stand out. I just bought a few more of these kits on ebay. I am going to do one in Tamiya metallic green and one in Tamiya orange. I like all the crazy colors the 911's used to have.
935k3 Posted October 2, 2016 Author Posted October 2, 2016 Just a heads up, those tabs on the side of the chassis will need to be removed. They were removed. I added those. They make the body sit square. The body moved around an did not stay in a positive lock without them.
935k3 Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 Finally got all trim painted and Spaztix chrome for the taillight section. About for masking and airbrush sessions.
Scalper Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Nice and clean. That tail light brezzle looks great. Very reflective
Toast Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) Very nice! I feel your pain with the masking. Trim turned out great. Edited October 20, 2016 by Toast
Davewilly Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Very nice looking Porsche so far... Keep up the great work!
christian-w Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Clean work. Pretty nice so far. Keep the good work going
935k3 Posted October 22, 2016 Author Posted October 22, 2016 The interior is done. This was my first ever attempt at flocking. I used embossing powder. The entire gauge area of dash is a decal. I made dash panel cut from .010 styrene. to go over it and add some depth. I also made separate floor mats and door speakers. I need to find or make a radio decal for the dash.
