cobraman Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Started this one yesterday. Flat top drag car. Roof removed and hole filled with sheet plastic and molded. Have not decided if I will use a funny car chassis or a FE dragster chassis.
bobthehobbyguy Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Good start. Another choice would be the chassis from the piranha. That way it could be rear engine. Just a thought.
Nytrozilla Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Good start. Another choice would be the chassis from the piranha. That way it could be rear engine. Just a thought.I like your train of thought Bob.If you don't have a Piranha in your stash, perhaps the recent AMT Chezooom might work. Not only is it rear engine, it's a Corvair too. Pretty much assures a wheelbase fit.Happy to see it as a topless car. I've got a soft spot for them.
Snake45 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 How about putting it on the dragster--not the altered, but the dragster--chassis from the AMT Double Dragster? I've been wanting to pull that stunt with something for a while now. Since I'll prolly never get around to it (who we kiddin', huh?), the idea is yours to pirate.
bobthehobbyguy Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 If you use the double dragster frame then use the twin chevys also. Definitely will be differeht.
cobraman Posted September 9, 2016 Author Posted September 9, 2016 I think I have settled on the funny car chassis. I had to shorten up the wheelbase some but not much. I have the body in primer for the third time and I think I may sanded and puttied out all the bad spots. Will still need to cut the holes for the engine and roll bar.
Randy D Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Hi Ray, I always enjoy your builds! This one is shaping up to really cool. Randy
cobraman Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Thanks guys. Slow going on this one. You know how life sometimes gets in the way and I lost my motavation for a bit. Here is where I am as of today.
Dogfish_7 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 It has all the makings of a very fine build. Looking forward to watching.
cobraman Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 Well today I did what always is tough on me when I do one of these flat top cars. That being the openings and trying to get them spaced right and sized right. Won't say I nailed it but was lucky enough to get them close enough for me.
cobraman Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 Thanks much fellows. I had to enlarge the rear wheel wells a bit. Car getting it's final primer coat today.
cobraman Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 Thank you guys. This one is pretty much done. I painted it Ocean Blue. I shot the clear today so I may take finished photos tomorrow.
Crazy Ed Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 That sucker looks Good Ray. Ya know you've build kind of a two fee Car there! On the one hand you've got the intended 1/4 Mile Car with the Wheele Bars, but if yoou remove them you've got quite the Salt Flats Car also!
nitro norman Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 I thought you might like to see this.
