JustAce Posted September 9, 2016 Posted September 9, 2016 (edited) So this is my first WIP for the forum and probably the last decade its been a long time. I decided I'd be over ambitious and go full custom with a heap of detail master bits and pieces and this will be my first time working with PE parts. Going for a fenderless build and I also sanded down that ugly moulded in rag top. Something Ive orided myself on with model building over the years is the prep put in to get as close to a perfect paint job as possible in the below photo Ive glued the inner fenders to the body and started filling them with tamiya basic putty Im going for a nice smoothed custom look. Theres still much work to do there before I am satisfied enough to "send it to paint" As I mentioned above this is my first time working with PE parts and while I don't feel like doing body work tonight Ive started to put together the detail master billet revolver wheels. Going for the big and little look because lets be honest a 30's fo r d coupe just looks so good with staggered fitment. The little I pinched from a monogram shelby cobra kit I had lying around and the big bad slicks came from a bantam blast kit that I have been kit bashing for years. Thats all I have for now, I'm still waiting for some detail parts to arrive from RB motion for the engine and some airbrush stuff. Thanks for checking in. Matt. Edited September 9, 2016 by JustAce
slusher Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Boy, those are some huge rear tires/slicks....
JustAce Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Looking forward to more. Thanks, hope to have some more work done this weekend.Boy, those are some huge rear tires/slicks....Haha yes they are, but theyre not too over the top (I hope) If the vision I have for it is right it will look a treat when done.
Jantrix Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 As I recall that kit has sort of modern suspension. Are you going old school or going to use the kit suspension?
JustAce Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 As I recall that kit has sort of modern suspension. Are you going old school or going to use the kit suspension? It's semi modern yeh but not very detailed, I like the idea of modern bits in old cars so I might see if I can find a 4 link rear in my parts box or try my hand scratch building for the first time see what I come up with. Will have a blown and injected motor too.
JustAce Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Finally got a decent bit of bench time in. Ive removed the guts of the kit grille so I can add the PE grill into it and youll be able to see the radiator through it, Ive also attched it to the chassis along with the fender aprons. It still need some filler and filing but Im pretty happy that it was a simple job to get it to where it is now. I also threw out the old PE set of bullet wheels as the CA glue was a pain to work with and I basically ruined them, not to fret a got another set and did them with 15 minute epoxy and theyve come up a treat. I also went to the effort of hitting them with the dremel polishing wheel and some auto sol metal polish. As Im going with the fenderless build something had to be done about the bum of the body having a gap in it and the chassis sticking so far out so i chopped the chassis And I cut out a piece of .030 styrene and glued it in place at the rear of the body. Lathered it in putty and once its had some time to cure I will be sanding it down smoothto give it that custom look. I wasnt happy with the headers that came in the kit so Ive started making some with stryene rod, Ive cut 8 equal lengths of rod and epoxied some detail master PE flanges to them, once that has set Ill hit them with a heat gun and persuade them into an actual pair of 4 into 1 headers pefore painting. Im pretty chuffed with how Im progressing so far and hope I keep getting through it without too much trouble.
JustAce Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 And heres a quick couple of shots of how Im hoping I can get the stance. Thanks for checking in, all criticisms and suggestions are welcome
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 looking forward to seeing more, especially the header plans
