landman Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I have this engine in my junkpile. It is molded in yellow. What makes it interesting is the amount of detail it has in the heads, cylinder bores and bottom end. It'll get cleaned up and wind up in the dio. It would be nice to know what it is. Does it ring a bell with anyone?
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) Absolutely. 50+ year-old Revell Oldsmobile 303-321-371-394.It's from the Orange Crate kit. Edited September 11, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Mark Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 That's an early Olds engine, from the Revell Orange Crate or one of the variations of it.
Longbox55 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Just taking a wild guess based on what I see, it looks like it is the Oldsmobile engine from the '80s issue Revell "Chopped '32 Ford Sedan" Those kits is modified reissues of the Orange Crate
unclescott58 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I love this type of stuff. And I'm always amazed at the knowledge of people here.

landman Posted September 11, 2016 Author Posted September 11, 2016 Me too Scott....plus I love seeing what cool old stuff others find....great for the memories of much better days. And to think I had bid on an Orange Crate motor but quit when it got out of hand. And I had one all along. Go figure.
espo Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 The truly amazing thing about this engine is some of the detail built into it. I think it would stand up to the current Revell Oldsmobile engine but with extra detailing that may never be seen. Just think about how long ago this was created and it just makes you wonder where this attention to detail went.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) Just FYI...that particular series of Oldsmobile engines was very popular in drag-racing and for swap material because of its relatively large cubic-inch displacement and reputation for being quite bulletproof. Revell offered several other versions of that basic tooling in the original '41 Willys SWC (GMC 6-71 blower), the Anglia and Thames kits (Hilborn fuel-injected), and at least one of the Roth customs (the Beatnik Bandit has a GMC 4-71 blower and multiple carbs). None of them will build into an entirely stock engine, but adding the best bits from the AMT '40 Tudor (Olds) engine (the water pump / timing cover and 3X2 manifold) and the recent Revell '50 Olds (valve covers, distributor and belts / pulleys) can make a pretty good looking model. I have always dug the little extras the old kits came with too. The ancient 1/25 Revell parts-pack engines are ALL built with the same amount of internal detail. Reissues of the smallblock Chebby, the 427 Ford, and first-generation OHV Pontiac and Cadillac V8 engine kits are plentiful and cheap. There are also kits of the 392 Chrysler Hemi and the Buick nailhead engine in the same line, but they've never been reissued and are somewhat expensive when you can find them. 426-Hemi Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 There has been A LOT of resin repops of that engine used in various small block applications! BECAUSE of the bottom end detail, as well the head detail is GREAT....As said, it be a dang good addition to a garage Dio for the detail in it!
