I am glad that is coming along so nicely. I too have a '60 Lincoln to restore. Mine is going to be Black, with the Black and white interior, as I too found a picture of a restored one at a show. Keep it up.!!!!

Oops, forgot to tell you what a great job you're doing on this beautiful land yacht. Now I have to get the Bubble Top Impala I've been putting off because I was afraid to do the fine chrome emblems and letters in this style. But after seeing your photos I think I have a grasp on how to at least give it a try... Guess it's good that I have more than one to play with.

I'm getting into this pretty late in the game, but for anyone who's interested, you CAN'T JUDGE colors by what you see on screens, or what you see in print. The only true way to check a color is with an actual PAINTED chip, or panel. Inks and color pictures can't capture the exact dyes or toners to get the color right in print and even digital photography isn't fool proof because it still relies on an existing color palette, not the actual pigments. So if you are happy with what you have, chances are it's extremely close if the paint formula was followed carefully by who mixed it.

Agreed, although I've never seen the actual color in person . So all I  have are monitor pictures I've found.  My paint guy couldn't find a mix formula for something this old so we found a color that's close and he played with it using different tints . In the bottle it looked pretty close ,,,but to be honest I think once I sprayed it out we should have put more purple tint in it. But I'm happy with it and it looks amazing in person. 

 

Just curious why you didn't put the yellow on the emblems before burying them under clear? You could also use a transparent yellow on the pointed Q tips and get your gold effect

I did it this same way on my 58 Imperial build and its still a nice gold color ,,,nearly 5 years later

You were correct not to Bill.

If you were planning on using a Sharpie to tint it, you would have ruined it.

Never spray clear over Sharpie.

It will definitely run.

Even using paint is a question mark.

Depending upon what sort of paint you use & what kind of clear you put over the top, you could have left yourself open to all sorts of problems.

Much safer doing it later.

Its in the case for a few weeks to gas out + dry. I painted  the interior yesterday but I'm not real happy with the color. So I am going to try and find some different tan colors to try again

Do you air brush or rattle can? What kind of paints?

This one is airbrushed and is only maybe the 2nd or 3rd time I've used my airbrush in 5 years

Normally I use rattle cans. But,,,,I was after a unique color so I had this paint mixed at Smythe Automotive in Florence Ky. it was $16 for a 2 oz touchup bottle . And he gave me the reducer for it at no charge . .

 

the clear is from  Upol rattle can urethane clear sprayed right out of the can. I use it because

A - its convenient

B- it polishes out REALLY nice and slick  with reasonable effort . I've had some builds I didn't polish it at all . Its usually lays down nice

C - its convenient . KOI and Smythe both have it on the shelf

Be advised if u use it,,,spray it outdoors as it does have a strong odor to it.  I use one of the paint masks when I spray it in my garage .

I've heard that it's good stuff but haven't tried it myself.

I've not used UPol clear. I've used their weld thru primer though. 

Perhaps that is why the gas out times are longer since it's legit automotive stuff. 

I can prime, paint, clear, wetsand, and buff tamiya in a day.

Well, I managed some bench time over the weekend. Got the paint polished out. (I LOVE this color btw )

Got all the BMF work done,,,which was not an easy task as those wheel lip mouldings are hair thin. Then went over the emblems with a yellow sharpie. Got all the wheels and tires mocked up. I'm using the AMT parts pack wide whites instead of those rock hard originals. All that's left are a few small details on the interior and spray and detail the chassis .

But for now  I just had to dry assemble it for a picture . With no issues ,,,,,I should have it wrapped up and under glass by the weekend .

Interior is almost finished. I have to fix a broken steering wheel then paint detail it before I can call it done.

Color is something I mixed up combining a couple different testors wood or tans enamels to get closer to my target color choice, then airbrushed. Dash was painted with alclad then the tan I mixed. (not 100% happy with it,,,but its close enough in my book. Also used some dark tan embossing powder to get the carpet look.
